BB8310 vs BB8320 vs BB8820

Been looking for some blackberries and I have narrowed them down to these three.

8310 has the GPS while 8320/8820 has the wifi.

Im wondering how useful it is to have the GPS if your provider does not provide the GPS service thingy (unless im wrong and you dont need some sort of GPS package to use the GPS with)

And for the wifi, does it only work with hotspots? or does it work with any wifi in general?

And also, whats the difference between 8320 and 8820? The only major difference I see is the battery life and the 802.11a protocol

Suggestions/analysis appreciated

GPS is free. But you need a BB dataplan to access the map applications which make the GPS data useful. You can use GoogleMaps and BBMaps for free, but you do not get voice commands and auto reroute. Plus you need to really look at the screen to see how you are doing on the route you set. Not safe IMHO.

The WiFi should work where ever there is a WiFi signal. Not sure exactly what you are asking about here. I think you still require a BB dataplan even if you have WiFi, especially for BB email.

Other than that, the 83xx keyboard seems a bit more user friendly than the 88xx. More a personal preference than anything else.

Thanks for the input.

I guess that basically just weeds 8310 out

As for the WiFi, Im wondering if you can use it like a regular device to get on the internet thru the blackberry if you had a wifi network at home

I think that should work. But if you are at home, why not use your PC rather than the BB?

GPS is of no use with Rogers or Fido. I have the Blackberry 8320 and honestly, I never use WiFi (its really only usable for two things: browsing and UMA support). UMA support gives the upper hand to the WiFi equipped models, Rogers/Fido is just introducing this service and you can check out those boards for information. The 8320 is, honestly, one of the best phones I've had. Solid, good looking, reliable and stable. I have been disappointed of late with the reception of late, but generally its strong too.

I see.

knowing about the UMA support kinda made me lean more towards the WiFis, but I doubt with all their locking up of their system right now any unbranded/unlocked device would work with them.

As for reception issues, can you elaborate on that a bit more?
Thanks
