Using unlocked iPhone in HK?

All,

I have my iPhone since last July, and have been using it since under AT&T. Just last weekend I decided to jailbreak and unlock it with Ziphone 3.0. I am going to Hong Kong in a few weeks to visit for a month, and, while I am back, I would like to buy a local sim card for my daily use instead of using my current AT&T sim card with long distance roaming. I would like to know is my phone now ready for inserting any local GSM sim card for use, or do I need to install any other software (like AnySim) to "further" unlock it for use in HK? When I insert a local sim card, do I need to set any configuration for that provider, or is all required info embedded in the local sim card already?

Also, can someone recommend a local service provider from whom I can purchase a pay-as-you-go type of local sim card so that I can make local calls and surf the net with EDGE? Any idea which HK provider has the most wifi hotspots for their users so that I can switch to wifi when available?

Thanks in advance.

Kenny

It will work automatically when you put the sim in
If something is wrong, install iworld from installer and select hong kong - but i dont think you even have to do that anymore.

There are lots of providers
biggest is china mobile
not sure what the rates are but probably pretty easy to find. can probably get the sim from ebay too.

When I went to HK to visit a friend, she got me a prepaid, it was pretty cheap, but there was no data services on the pre-paid, then again I never asked her about that. In HK there are abundance of places that sell or refill pre-paid. So you just pop the card in, and register it, to get your number to give out so people can reach you. And that is all.

Have fun in HK!

I certainly miss HK!

Thanks guys. Glad to know that I can just pop a local sim in and is done!

So any recommended provider? CSL? 3? PCCW? I assume all will work, given that they have pre-paid?

Also, how is the free wifi availability? How about paid wifi service, like in Starbucks for instance? Do they charge by the hours/days?

Thanks.

go there...that'lltake care of all your needs- once you get the card- you'll need to call them to activate the gprs function (or check the website on how to do it alone...)
