Hawaii would be Some believe that Vancouver users might be able to luck into the 3G sector although I'm pretty sure it's hopeless for Toronto =/

Nope. Both Vancouver and Toronto are covered by 3G according to DoCoMo's roaming page, as are Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Montreal, Ottawa, Saskatoon, Kelowna, St. Catharines, Regina, Kitchener, Sudbury, Chicoutimi, Barrie, Victoria, and Whistler, among others. So go out and get that SH905iTV if you live in any of those places and want one, I guess...

hmm... I think I've asked about video calling in Toronto and people told me it wasn't possible cause 3G frequencies were different?

Most keitais do not support 3G on the North American bands (850 and 1900), and so you're stuck with 2G GSM.

The X01HT does (in both 850 and 1900!), and I can confirm that 3G works just fine.

Actually, since the 901iS series DoCoMo has used 850 for 3G as well as 2100 so all of their phones support it (in fact, the SH905iTV is 3G only, but will work in North America and has been FCC-certified because of the 850MHz support).

Well, I don't know about spending additional money on that- DoCoMo's roaming page states that 3G is OK for the Canadian cities I mentioned (Toronto included). However, their page states that videocalling won't work. Wonder why?

Blame Rogers, only approved Rogers phones can use the 3G network

Not to sure about that one... I've used a Nokia XpressMusic 5610 phone and video calling works on that.

I called rogers and the sales person told me that as long as the phone supports 3G It will work. Now I don't know how knowledgeable these guys are about phones but I'm just here to report what I was told. I asked them if the phone had to have "Rogers Vision" software in order to get onto their 3G network and the answer as "no". So it's possible.

Posted by: deasine

But to use all of Rogers vision services such as TV, you need their software

well.. hm... that's kinda gay. It's not a huge loss for us keitai users because we can't use 1-SEG to use the TV feature anyways. So it's useless. I'm more interested in their video calling service. I really want to put that inside camera into some good use.

of course that's not true. any 3G phones with 850/1900 3G will work with rogers or fido 3G network.

Posted by: aw614

i think he probably meant rogers vision plans or something

Posted by: marktang

yes any phone with the right 3G frequency can use rogers vision plan. i have used it since the launch of it with my SoftBank X01HT then with tytn II then with the Cruise. Video calling worked and Mobile TV worked on it too (at&t version of mobile tv).

Posted by: Sturmtruppen22

makes sense now, good to know

technically they should. My Next Sim V6 haven't detected 3G networks and I'm in Toronto so... If you want to try with yours by all means...

Posted by: marktang

i dont think 3G works. im trying to force it to run 3G but it doesnt.

Posted by: yangj08

Maybe it only works for the SH905iTV. That's the only phone that's had its 3G FCC-certified for the US and Canada.

Posted by: shadow84956

how do u force 3g on sh905i?
