WebJal NO MORE! - Do it wirelessly here!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

There is no need for WebJal and all the messy cords. You can now get the applications you want on your iDEN phone through Sprint's iDEN Application Uploader - which allows your phone to download the application OTA.

The link is:

Hope this helps!

PS: For CDMA/Hybrid customers, use "Sprint PCS Uploader" here: http://www.gtoal.com/pcs/

Also check for not going over 16 characters and nothing... tsmilanich or game619 can either of you post step by step how you got it working? Thanks.

Tried sending Opera Mini (compressed the jar and jad into a .zip file) and it hasn't showed up in the Java Download App yet. Been about 15 minutes -- what's the turnaround time like?

Posted by: michaelper22

I managed to install Gmail 1.5.0.1135 installed using this tool, but any other apps failed to show up in New Purchases (see my phone details for, well, details). I'll try again tomorrow and see if it still works.

All you need to do is download the .jad and .jar files for the app you want, zip them up, and upload them? That's exactly how I got Gmail to work, but no other apps went like that.

Update: Turns out that you shouldn't enter the number 1 before the area code for U.S. phone numbers.

Posted by: Tim98TA

I get the same error.
I also get "Failed Download with status code: 904(Attribute Mismatch)"

Posted by: YTRY2BEME2

same errors any fixes yet?

Posted by: Tim98TA

I found this linked from another discussion. Tried it and it worked PERFECT!!!!!!

Anyone getting the sprint pcs link to work?

Just a quick question here: Anyone aware of who developed this site and/or what specific system is being used to pipe these apps through Nextel's system? It's really interesting because something of this nature has never been really documented as being possible outside of using Nextel's own JAL app or WebJal or any of it's variations out there. Then all of a sudden this pops out of the woodwork and totally kicks all those apps to the curb for Java apps.

Posted by: black jack

Hopefully this works for me

I would like to know this also. Works great here by the way.

The scary thing about loading apps like that, is that malicious people can create an app that says "free game from nextel" and it can be a trojan. Mass send it to phones, and if unawares people install it, they get f-ed..

I have no problem with the concept, but the mechanics of it should be kept secure, and phone #'s should be logged by a wap.(whatever).com before it will send any apps to that phone #.

Posted by: Vchat20

Not really....Thankfully these phones make it hard for a malicious app to really cause problems. Most of the detrimental functions have settable 'ask me' permissions in the java settings, apps aren't really able to write or modify system files. Worst case scenario you can either force end the app and remove it or hard reboot the phone by removing/replacing the battery and bingo! the app's no longer running, and delete it.

Between of the setup of the iDEN phone series firmware and the Mobile Java VM, it all creates a real nice sandbox for these applications.

Posted by: damm315er

Well, as long as the sandbox is secure.. If the sandbox was built by microsuk it would be a sand-sieve, and that's what I fully expect everything else to be by default.

I will say that perhaps I should have checked further before making such a statement, but I'll still not be downloading any "free games from nextel"...

Posted by: g25racer

Works great on my i880!! Thanks alot for the info

Posted by: Vchat20

Another quick question: Anyone aware of a way to clear out apps from the 'new purchases' list without actually downloading them to the phone? I've had a couple attempts at loading the recent opera mini build that have failed on some really odd error that are now just clogging up the list.

"failed download with status code:904(ATTRIBUTE Mismatch). Please retry."

Error code 904 usually means that the size of the jar file that is specified in the jad file does not match the actual jar file size.

Either fix the jad file by modifying the line:
MIDlet-Jar-Size: 114988
to reflect the actual size on the jar file. Right click the jar and choose properties, look at Size in bytes.

-or-

Generate a new jad using jadmaker http://www.download.com/JADMaker/30....html?tag=mncol

Posted by: Kamanu

Just curious will this work with boost? cause if not I could be SOL when my new boost phone comes in. I have no idea how well webjal will play with windows 7. :|

Posted by: izsocal

I think I figured out the "Invalid Digital Item 1013" problem...

I attached a pic to explain:

I believe the problem is in the .jad file... The files on the left I can compress and it will upload to my phone fine, but the ones in the right won't. Notice the .jad files are different. I don't remember how I got the files on the left (it was a while ago) but whenever I download any recent java apps the .jad comes different like the one in the right... that gives "Invalid Digital Item 1013"

Posted by: MrMagicFire

Does anyone know how to clear the "New Purchases" list?

Hey it worked! Thanks for the advice, I've been trying to get Gmail to work for like an hour.

I wish I knew of a way too, I had to send the Gmail 8 different times before it worked, now the 7 that didn't work are stuck in the list.
