bad things about the P905i?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: beilei

Well, people would naturally only comment about the good things about their 7 bill phone and usually won't comment anything that's negative at all.

Instead of knowing how spectacular the P905i is, what are some of the things that bother you everytime you use it?

Posted by: xRiCex

putting things on the phone can be a hassle(pics, music) and no t9

Posted by: beilei

something wrong with the usb cable??

and no T9

so no T9, no Bluetooth (file transfer)

Posted by: joshyth

also, the phone really need to be able to take pic in horizontal position, instead of vertical like most digi cam, if they are going to make it a 5.1 mp cam. Also, i can't play video (mp4 format that are larger than 1000mb, even my n95 or n82 could do that).

1) You can set the cam resolution to "WIDE" settings and you can take the horizontally

2) I haven't tried that yet, but I think that's a USB limit. If you transfer it via MicroSD adapter you can put videos as large as your MicroSD can hold.

The only draws I see are

1) Lack of 3G feature in North America
2) No GSM 850
3) No "flash light" feature like SE America does
4) Bluetooth cannot be used to transfer files

Posted by: sha[R]d

Additionally, aren't we still having trouble getting our own ringtones to work?

thats not true, you can adjust the camera settings so that you can take pictures Hoizontally. Second, you CAN play mp4 formats in the machine as long as ur micro SD can store it. I have tried it myself...hehe~

Dislikes:

cant receive call waiting
battery consumption
poor reception
data transferring
cannot set ringtone

wow! I'm shocked! all these are suppose to be our "daily" important usage of the phone......

I'm wondering if these are common problems for Japanese phones, same for F905i? or Softbank phones?

I'm gonna have to disagree with some of the things you said:

1. Call Waiting - It does work. You have to activate it in 'Menu' -> 'Service' -> 'Call Waiting'. When someone calls, you just press the call button to put somebody on hold. Call forwarding doesn't work though

2. Battery Consumption - Since we're using GSM mode our battery life is shorter compared to 3G mode, but it's not that bad. I never turn off my phone and I can go a few days without charging the phone, which is fine for me. The only times I feel that the battery life is short is if I turn up the brightness, watch lots of videos or play games

3. Poor Reception - I have to really disagree with this one, but it's very subjective because we are all located in different areas with different providers and different SIM hacks. For me, I always have 3 bars and never lost signal a single time. And this is with the $20 SIM hack

4. Data Transferring - I don't have a USB cable, so getting music on my P905i is nearly impossible. Everything else is fine as long as I make the right folders and rename them properly

5. Ring Tone - I don't care for fancy ring tones, so this doesn't affect me

Posted by: yummin

This one's the most annoying and I still don't know how to fix it:

-> The caller hears a LOUD screech whenever I pick up the phone. It doesn't happen when they reach voicemail, just every time I answer the call.

On the upside, I've never had an issue with reception. Most places I go (including my friend's basement) I still get at least 2/3 full reception. The only time it cut out was when I walked into a mall under renovation which had a faraday cage effect.

1. call waiting works for you?? were you able to actually pick up the call, cause we tried different buttons including the call button thats the obvious one that should be selected. but still doesnt work.

2. Reception is poor for me, sometimes it wouldnt even pick up the signal. I had to take my sim out and put it to my N73 first. Then place it back to P905i to get the signal back.

3. Battery is really poor i think, talk time can only last 2.5hrs and I usually charge my battery on average is ones every 2 days.

I believe your P905i maybe defective because none of us is having that loud sreech problem. I would suggest you contact your seller about this issue.

@ ryanfok: My reception is usually at 3 bars but in some location it will drop to 2. It rarely reaches 1 or 0 bars. I've had a weird recent outtage downtown but when I got back home it reconnected. This is also from a $20 sim hack.

I want to try call waiting but I haven't encountered a situation where I needed it yet lol..

Posted by: bado

I'm new to the japanese phone market...and recently want to get the P905i. I found a vendor who claim their P905i doesn't need Hypersim or any kind hardware hacks. Could you guys confirm that it is true?

Thanks,

yes it is true because they've modified the internal of P905i so that a hypersim is present inside the phone.

Murdoc2k, I dunno anything about Unlocking a phone, but my package says HYPERSIM and is made in Taiwan.
so could that be the problem?

sorry one more thing, it says i-smartphone 2008 on the sim

Posted by: sha[R]d

ryanfok, strangely enough I'm encountering the same thing: a loud beep on the other end when I answer my phone. I'm using the simhack from dealextreme - exactly like the stock photo, but without the 'i-smartsim2008' text.

It might be the simhack or the phone. I have a different simhack coming in soon, so I'll try that and see if the same thing still occurs.

EDIT: It seems yuumin has the same problem. http://howardforums.com/showpost.ph...35&postcount=31

That deal extreme (deal extreme as in a website right cuz i googled lol) sim looks alot like my Next Sim V7 5th revision >_> except you said you didn't have a label with I-smartsim2008 which the Next sim V7 5th revision has (damn it and its long name) ps. This is NOT to be confused with the Next V7 sim that allen sells. The one that I use is from Alven and not Allen they are two different sellers that claim to have a Next sim V7 >_> and honestly I don't trust Allen much.

And I'm pretty sure its the sim hack because not a lot of people have that problem. It's probably better to buy off a Ebay member so we have an idea of what type of sim hack it is since most of the sims look the same to me.

@ryanfok

>_> A lot of sim brands have the words I-smartsim2008 on them lol so its hard to tell them apart. But your HYPERSIM package that says made in taiwan does it look like this package. Also is the chip on the hypersim on the side or the middle, and does it have the words INEX 128 on it or is it scratched out.

Posted by: sha[R]d

Yep, DealExtreme the website. boingboing.net's description is "DealExtreme.com seems to be an online retailer where you can buy all that cheap Chinese crap you were never sure you needed. (You probably don't.)" ... sounds about right.

i'm using a usb microSD adapter, it still doesn't work. Plus, some of the smaller size .3gp video that i put on it also won't play, it either doesn't have sound, video, or just won't play at all.

TOFU, thanks for ur prompt reply. Yes, thats exactly how the package looks like, the chip is on the corner and it says..hmm..i think..f300A on it...nothin that i can see is rubbed out. So wat chip do i have, and is it a good chip?

It works for me. I think you don't have the correct resolution set. It works if you do. Make sure you have in the right directory with the correct file name (according to Docomo's naming convention).

The file naming is right, cause i put the same microsd into my so905i and it will play on it but not the p905i.

Hey I think you got scammed. That package is the official Inex128 hypersim and as far as I know (someone please correct me if I'm wrong so I don't look like a idiot) the inex hypersim's chip is located in the center and not the side o.O and the chip would have the words Inex128 or something like that and shouldn't have the words I-smartsim 2008.

The hypersim I bought awhile ago was labeled with nothing and the chip was on the center (like the picture on the package) and had inex128 on the chip. But then again I haven't bought the newer hypersims from ebay so I wouldn't know if they changed the layout of the sim.

So to be honest I'm not sure why you have the screeching problems it might be the P905i's problem.

As for reception I get great reception and I live in scarborough....that I have no clue I think its a issue with rogers then lol >_>

As for the battery life, the phones battery is only 770mah don't expect too much out of it lol I have to charge my phone every 1 1/2 days since I use it quite often (not just for calling)

Posted by: MyLoveForTofu

I think your going to have to ask someone else I haven't bought hypersims for awhile now since the last person I bought from was a seller looking for testers lol now he just sends me his newer versions for testing. >_<

Posted by: xRiCex

i get teh screech thing too

Posted by: ShawnK

My iNex hypersim has the chip in the middle and is etched with HS128.

Tried that, doesnt do anything

Posted by: yamagatacamille

as they've already been said in previous posts, I'll only state my 2 major problems about the P905i:

1- Ringtone -- despite attempting the MLD ringtone method over @ SG hardwarezone to no avail, no other method has surfaced for a HQ ringtone. I wished AAC would've worked..

2- my friends tell me when I answer my phone, there is a loud screech at the beginning. I use INEX hypersim, and I'm wondering if it's the SIMhack or the phone itself.

Posted by: moondawgy

^^ I use the INEX hypersim myself (with rogers 3040) and I don't have that problem. I called myself numerous times using another phone (to test out other features) and no loud screech in the beginning or end of call.

Does it happens everytime or only when your signal is poor?

Posted by: ryanfok

it doesnt happen to me either

Posted by: alizarin

i know i shouldn't really complain about having no MMS, and internet because i knew about this before i brought the phone but sometimes it is a real big pain not being able to send pictures especially when shopping.

Posted by: joshyth

i know someone might have complained about this, but why doesn't panasonic make the phone menu go horizontal when you open the phone side way instead of staying the same as fliping the phone open. this is really annoying cause sometime you have to just guess which option go with which button on the phone.

Posted by: murdoc2k

well if you don't look at it horizontally and keep it vertical then you won't have to think so much

I get this, whether or not I use an i-smartsim2008 or Benny's Q-sim.

Posted by: zeroGhost

Ok I just got back from HK with the 2 phones...
My black 905 is fine. The girlfriend's gold one is screeching...

I just got the sim to swap over from U0.2 from rogers last night. and only this morning did I realize it had that problem. Called the dealer in HK and he told me to reset the phone and try again. Luckily I purposely bought a spare simhack the same version 6 that works on my phone. Also told me to try different sims if its just conflicting with the phone and hack.

Ill try the above and get back to you guys, but probably wont be seeing her till this weekend so hold tight guys.
