Where have all my programs gone...? And why won't my phone turn off? HTC Mogul/P4000

So I sit here with my HTC Mogul/Titan/P4000/6800 and I'm wondering first, where did all the memory go? Heaven forbid I want to browse the internet AND have my email checking.
It makes me miss my sidekick something fierce.
ANYWAY - I know I was limited with Windows Mobile devices - I do miss back in my PPC days of allocating some storage space for programs, but life isn't easy like that any more.
I have 2 programs on my phone that need to stay open, all the time. One is my IM client (Palringo) and the other is FlexMail (either 2007 or version 4) - I didn't post specifically about this on their forums as it seems to happen regardless of the program.
I will sit, wondering "Why haven't I gotten any email" only to check and see that the programs are just not there. I've not been doing EXTENSIVE browsing, maybe a bit here or there - but a lot of the times it's just sitting, doing nothing at all.
I have asked on the subsequent forums, but I don't foresee them having much constructive, since there doesn't seem to be a widespread reason why it is those two programs, especially when there's next to nothing else open, close.
Palringo takes up around 256k, and FlexMail is usually between 3 - 4 megs. Please help, there's no sense in me having the push email with HTML support if it's randomly going to just go belly-up on me.
With that said, the next joy in my life is when I'm charging my phone at night.
I leave it connected via ActiveSync, and charge at my computer. I turn the screen off, and walk away. so far every time when I wake up in the morning, the screen is back on, full force.
I know the screens are probably going to be good to go for years and years, but I don't want to risk it, not with a device that cost, well, way too much.
Sorry for the ramblin' post, and thanks.

This is why I keep thinking we should merge both Windows Mobile forums together - yet another question about a Professional (touchscreen) device gets posted on the Standard (non-touchscreen) forum.
The newest official ROM for the Mogul has a Task Manager you can use to close programs you are not using, including that pesky ActiveSync. I have never used FlexMail but if you have it set up to check email automatically, this may be what is turning your screen on while the phone charges at night. If you can afford not getting phone calls or emails while sleeping you might want to shut down the device while charging it overnight. Hold down the Power button for five seconds or so and a dialog pops up asking you if its OK to power off. Tap Yes and presto, the phone charges without being activated by emails, calls or other such activities out of your control.
