Two Issues that I am having with my Curve (8300)

For the past week my Curve (AT&T 8300) has had a lot of buzzing coming from the handset speaker (Not Speakerphone). It seems to be varied and tends to get worse the longer my calls are. Yesterday it was louder than the voice on the other end that I was talking to. I told the person that I was talking to that I would switch phones and call them back. When I hit the end button, the phone turned off completely. I did not hold the end button down, I just tapped it to end the call. I know that the battery was not low because before I started the call it had about 80% left and the phone call was only about 8 minutes. This also happened earlier in the week. The first time the battery was low but the second time it was about 70% full. I have no idea what's going on. Has anyone else had this problem?

Sounds like some sort of shirt circuit to me, have you ever dropped your Curve in water or experienced any similar problems before this started happening?

Nope. Its never been near water. I have never dropped it.

Purchased second hand? If not, warranty it ASAP.

I did. I bought it off craigslist. I guess I'm out of luck unless I can find somewhere locally to fix it unless anyone else has had the same issue and can help me diagnose it.

BB's come with a 1 year manufacturers warranty. It's tracked by the ESN so you don't need a receipt.

It outside of its warranty.

You could still try alling up RIM and seeing how much it'd cost to repair, otherwise you're out of luck.

Wasn't the GSM Curve only released last summer?

Posted by: eimajuno

With AT&T it came out early May. I think I may have found a place locally to have it looked at. Hopefully they will be able to figure out the problem.

So it took 11 months from the GSM release until the CDMA version was released. That bites!

Good luck getting it fixed, I'm just surprised RIM doesn't offer out of warranty repairs like HTC does.

Yep. Thats why it pays to be on GSM. Especially with the flexibility of a sim card.

About a year ago I considered making the jump over to Rogers because I wanted the flexibility of GSM. I'm sure glad I didn't make the move though. I've since learned that Telus has the best retentions department out of any Canadian carrier. And they are also the only ones to offer unlimited Blackberry Data for $15. I aint going anywhere anytime soon. I just can't justify it. But the lack of phone selection is definately a disapointment. I just hope Telus goes GSM sooner then later. One can dream right?

One can only hope. It kinda sucks for you guys up in canada since you only have one GSM provider. But whatever works best for. Unlimited data is key when using a phone like this as I am sure you know.
