I have been playing with things and I really luv this phone. I previously had the 8125 and used it for two years.

I was looking for some free software for the tilt and came across a few.

I have a question about the Telenav gps included with the phone. Does the free trial begin Right after you purchase it or when u first activate it?

What is a free nav software you are using? I was going to try the windows live search and see how things worked out.

What are some fo your favorite adds for your tilt?

The trial should begin when you first activate it. For free navigation software, I am using both Google Maps and Microsoft Live.

Best Apps are HTC Today Home Plugin, HTC Audio Manager, and some sort of registry editor and/or configuration tool.

My advice is to definitely check xda-developers.com especially their wiki section....handful of information

Be sure to download Google Maps and Windows Live Search! Those services are free and do a better job getting you where you need to be vs. Telenav which is a paid service.

The only sacrifice is turn by turn voice (which is annoying anyway).

WLS alerts you with a tone.

Do i have to download google maps through my cell phone? or can i download it on my computer and transfer the file to my phone (typically how I do things).

Also, The google maps that is free. Is this something that will use the data service from the phone? I haven't added a data plan yet, so Im just trying to figure out how Im going to do things for now.

Im always near a wifi so I never really felt the need for a data plan

Google Maps and WLS will require an active data connection since the data is pulled from a centralized server(s). If you haven't signed up with a data plan, you should NOT try TeleNav as it also requires an active data connection. The options for 'free' navigation WM software is really minimal if you don't have data.

If you are willing to shell out some bucks, you can consider TomTom or Garmin. They do not require data. (Turn off real-time traffic in case it's turned on by default because real-time traffic needs data obviously).

The other day I used google maps and I think i was using the internet from my works wifi. I didnt have a message prompt to connect me using the gprs. Am i wrong?

I understand that a data package is needed if you dont have a wifi, but shouldnt the wifi do the job when u are in range?

err, AT&T Navigator on my Tilt is AT&T branded Telenav. Full voice directions with street names, real time traffic, the whole shebang. What the heck is ATT maps - never heard of that.
