Issues After Buying Direct From Moto?

Apologies for being a noob, but we all have to start somewhere. I'm thinking about ordering a V8 through Moto and using it with AT&T. I've poured through a ton of threads & FAQs, and am still not sure about what I may be getting into. As others have said, this can all be a bit confusing and overwhelming. While I'm fairly tech-savvy, the mad scientist-crap is probably out of my league!
I'm not too concerned with totally trickin' it out. I'd just like it to perform and function as well (or a bit better) than other similiar high-end phones on the current market.
Thanks again for any and all help!

I think you should be in pretty good shape, although I've never done it myself. Normally (I don't know about always or not,) Motorola sells the unlocked phone, but for a specific carrier, so if you are buying an AT&T phone, you will be getting an unlocked phone, but it will still be branded to AT&T so all the AT&T programs and lockout will still be on there (with the exception being, ofcourse, being able to use Sim cards from other carriers on the unlocked version, but things like .MP3 ringtones and whatever else AT&T disables on their locked branded phones will still be locked in the Moto version) so if you never plan to use your phone on another carrier, it could be cheaper to simply get the locked version from the carrier itself.
I'm hardly an expert, becasue the last time I ever actually checked I was looking for an unlocked V9, and that was the story the Motorola CSR told me, that they didnt' sell unlocked generic phones, but that it was branded to a specific carrier. Again, it was unlokced however. In all fairness, for all I know it was just some guy in a call center who never even heard of Motorola before he started work, but that was the info I was given.

Sorry... I should have specified that the Razr2 V8 that I'm referring to at Moto is unlocked and unbranded.
