Contact Sync Problem

All of a sudden, all of my contacts have synced as "Unknown", the info is there if you click on it but all you can see is Unknown in the contact master list. What's going on?
UPDATE: restored a previous backup and everything seems OK now. Very strange. Looks like the File As field got set to a blank.
