They're not going to take a hit on admitting that things like no voice dialing, video, mms, etc. are shortcomings: They are only going to improve what's already there with just a few minor enhancements. Their "killer app", so to speak, will be the ability for the phone to connect to 3G networks. They will not include any features that preclude a total noob/novice from enjoying their device--so don't expect to format a removable media card on your next iPhone. Don't get your hopes up, people. Just look at the incremental improvements they've made to the iPod. |

iPhone 3G 8GB = $199 + $240 = $439 Final Cost of iPhone only iPhone 3G 16GB = $299 + $240 = $539 Final Cost of iPhone only iPhone 1.0 = $399 | 2 Year AT&T Data Plan = $480 | $399 + $480 = $879 iPhone 3G= $199 | 2 Year AT&T Data Plan = $720 | $199 + $720 = $919 |

I use my WM Treo to access a hosted exhange server to read work email. But that's no different than a persomal user accessing hosted exhange for personal use. |

The one before it (2G) is GSM. The main difference you will see is data rate speed. Think of GSM as being a 56K dial up modem. It's actually faster than that, but it's relatively slow. 3G is like high speed broadband. Like DSL or Cable modem. GSM=about 200kbps max. 3G=800kbps typical. But 3G can eventually go to 7.5Mbps and beyond. It affects phone calls too. 3G phone calls should sound a little better because there's more bandwidth. 3G is a brand new digital network. I uses the digital bandwidth completely differently. The phone will switch automatically between the two networks. So now with 3G you can use the 'new' network and also fall back to the old network when needed. Eventually GSM will be phased out a very long time from now. Lastly, 3G can do data and voice calls at the same time. On GSM you can only do one or the other. 1G = Analog "AMPS" (now gone) 2G = GSM (first generation digital network) 3G = WCDMA (2nd generation digital network) |

I wonder if they did it for that very reason - to spur accessory sales, or if they had a genuine desire to improve upon the shape of the device. Either way, it's taller, wider, and thicker than the original, but due to the tapered edges, the total volume contained may actually be less, so I don't think they did it to fit more stuff inside.

Can the Iphone 3G do stereo bluetooth AD2P and AVRCP? Or is it locked down so that you have to use either a corded set of ear phones or a singe (mono) bluetooth headset for phone calls only? I ask since I'm with Verizon and we all know what they do to some of their phones. I know it's not out yet so no one really knows for sure but, I thought maybe one of you folks might know.
Got specs from here. http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html |

Less Volume (Again) 2.) NO Voice Calling and many more... I would suggest everyone you should buy LG viewty phone instead of iPhone 3G.. LG viewty is awesome phone.. I bought my phone LG viewty from India.. ad it's so awesome... ![]() |
| Boostdd, it's been stated by Apple that there will be no MMS. Which if you ask me is a good idea. I think MMS is a terrible format, and Apple did a great job of killing the floppy when it introduced it's iMac, and I think Apple is doing it's best to give us a MMS-free future. What will replace MMS you say? Once you own an iPhone you'll see it's all email attachment. |

I can tell you've never used an iPhone. There is no comparison with the iPhone to any of the current touch-screen phones on the market. Sure on paper many phone look better feature-wise, but none of the other touch interfaces come close to Apple's patented Multi-Tap™ interface. Also, anyone that's run OS X knows how great it's multi-tasking is. And the version of OS X that runs on the iPhone is no exception. I'm not saying that someone might find some of the features missing from the iPhone to be a show-stopper and prefer an LG instead, but I can just tell you've never driven one for any reasonable length of time to make a comment similar to "everyone get an LG instead of the iPhone, it's better." I know the LG Viewty is supposedly marketed as a camera phone, not a iPhone killer, but look at the browser comparison (there isn't any!): LG Viewty versus Apple iPhone (I almost didn't post a reply to you, seeing as you might be trolling me. I mean, posting something like that to an iPhone 3G thread in the iPhone forum... but I do love a debate, so bring it :P) |

Anyhow I do understand people's cord dilemmas, I guess I just put sound and other conveniences (no battery, etc) above cord continence. |

Could she buy the 3g on her grandmothers number then the next day go back and switch the iphone from her grams number to her number and then activate her grams phone back on? |
