--NO hardware keyboard
--NO sync over Bluetooth, Bluetooth will remain crippled
--SAME 2 Megapixel camera
--WILL shoot video, length will be limited, no video or camera settings whatsoever
--WILL do some variation of MMS but not true MMS (see next tick)
--WILL have some connectivity widget to share pictures and videos over the web or maybe with other iPhones, but not true video calling
--Exchange services/"better" business productivity/connectivity tools (confirmed by Apple)
--Weak assortment of new widgets
--We will see some reflection of their current version of OS X Leopard in the iPhone (like Time Machine interface, Stacks, etc.)

I'm betting 50/50 on (could go either way):

--Copy/Paste
--Second facing iSight-like camera on the front
--Some sort of "voice tagging" feature (will not be system-wide--only for making calls to specific contacts)

Name of the beast:

--1st pick: iPhone 3G
--2nd pick: iPhone 2

You have to understand: Apple is about settings standards--not about duplicating what's already there. They're not going to take a hit on admitting that things like no voice dialing, video, mms, etc. are shortcomings: They are only going to improve what's already there with just a few minor enhancements. Their "killer app", so to speak, will be the ability for the phone to connect to 3G networks. They will not include any features that preclude a total noob/novice from enjoying their device--so don't expect to format a removable media card on your next iPhone.

Don't get your hopes up, people. Just look at the incremental improvements they've made to the iPod.

Ha! I was 98% correct! No video capability, sadly, and no real aesthetic leaps with the user interface; but all my other predictions were spot-on! Up to and including that weak "Mobile Me" business, which I predicted would be some dubious variation of MMS.

HA!

Hi eveyone. I don't know if this is old news or not. I'm just trying to help out. I work for at&t & we got our first email on iphone 3g. It will have business-class capabilities including email. Ability for developers, including at&t, to ceate customized consumer & business apps. Due out July 11 Friday U.S. Easy in-store activation. 2 year contract 8gb will be $199. 16gb will be $299. Unlimited iphone data plan for customers is $30 in additions to voice plans @ $39.99. Business users will be $45 in addition to voice plan. They're working on finalizing a "GPS-enabled application". For updates visit www.att.com/iphone. I hope this isn't old boring news, but this is all I know. Hope it helps.

While the iPhone 3G hardware price has been cut in half to $199, the mandatory AT&T Data Plan has actually gone up (from its current $20 monthly plan) to a total of $30 a month. With a mandatory 2-year contract, that extra $10 a month adds an extra $240 to the price tag… actually making the package $40 MORE expensive than the 1.0 version of the iPhone.

Here’s how that math works out: (It's not really cheap, just a small down payment and you're paying the rest in installments ($10/mth)

iPhone 3G 8GB = $199 + $240 = $439 Final Cost of iPhone only

iPhone 3G 16GB = $299 + $240 = $539 Final Cost of iPhone only

iPhone 1.0 = $399 | 2 Year AT&T Data Plan = $480 | $399 + $480 = $879

iPhone 3G= $199 | 2 Year AT&T Data Plan = $720 | $199 + $720 = $919

Not that ANY of this is going to keep me from getting a new 3G iPhone! :-) I just wanted to point out that it’s still about the same price, it’s just a different way of getting that same money from the customer. But now at least the customer gets 3G and GPS!

And for those that are concerned that their iPhone 1.0 will have lost all of its value on resale (because of of the $199 3G price tag), I would argue that the 1.0 models are now more valuable than ever. Because the iPhone 3G is ONLY available for $199 with a mandatory 2 year contract and in-store activation, it means that if you choose to jailbreak your iPhone 3G you’re still stuck with a 2 year contract or an early termination fee. For a lot of people that still want to run the iPhone on a different carrier than AT&T and be able to install free apps (vs. paying for them in the App Store), the iPhone 1.0 model will remain in HIGH demand.

Now ROGERS would be a different story as they are in a wait and see approach, they see AT&T jacking up data fees, possibly plan fees. Rogers will do the same or will keep their prices current not cheaper. Since revenue sharing no longer exists between Apple and Phone Provider it would up to Rogers to do what they want to do, apple could care less as they got their money for hardware.

i received an email from Apple indicating the iphone 3G will be released in Canada through Rogers and Fido on july 11th. i used the link Apple provided and was directed to the Rogers website, they have a teaser banner indicating something big is coming July 11th.
I used the Rogers web chat feature to inquire about the new "item"being relased on july 11th they had no idea what it was, and could not offer any help. I asked Sara if she looked like a mushroom as she seemed to be kept in the dark.
I went to the Fido site ;no info is listed ,go figure, they are the bargin bin for Rogers same company crappy website - i guess the window dressing is to make it look like there is competition..there was a september 2007 news letter avalable for download what a dumpy site.
Fadel Chbihna needs his hand slapped.
have some fun spend some time chatting with Rogers staff -ask about the iphone see if you can get anyone to admit it is coming .ask them to go to the apple website

Since you mention AT&T, I hope they create an OLAM app for the phone. It could be so much easy to check your minutes left, data usage and pay your bill.

You mean an unlock? It'll be expensive.

Remember, to buy one in the US (and likely Canada or other regions), you'll need to activate it in-store. That means having to sign up for service then and there and risk getting hit with an early termination fee. That could easily discourage even some individual buyers, let alone unlocking teams bent on scurrying as many iPhones away as possible.

There should be countries like France that will offer unlocked models, but those will be priced much higher than locked models... and of course, if you don't live in France, you have to import it. My guess is that the unlocked iPhone 3G will only be the province of wealthy/spoiled users.

Jailbreaking is also an issue: do you jailbreak and risk having problems with the App Store? The act might not be worth it at all.

I'd rather save myself $200 upfront and pay an extra $40 over 2 years. Doesn't that make sense? I can use that extra $200 towards something else or keep it in the bank. Over 2 years, who really cars about an extra $40...I'll just go to McDonalds 8 times less over the next 2 years and call it a wash .

So this $45 "for business users" data plan. What exactly determines if you are or aren't a business user.
I use my WM Treo to access a hosted exhange server to read work email. But that's no different than a persomal user accessing hosted exhange for personal use.

I don't know much about the deep iphone features, but at&t has a more expensive data plan for people who use their phones as a wireless modem for lap-tops or another PC. Maybe it opens it up for that? I don't know if the iphone has that or not, though. It's just a guess.

Unfortunately, ATT is nto offering a tethering option on the iPhone (via gizmodo and TUAW)

I use a personal exchange server and I do not plan on signing up for an enterprise plan. I believe the enterprise plan is for ppl who use VPNs and stuff

Right now I have a Nokia E61i, which I hate, on a corporate plan. Will I be able to remove the 3G SIM and pop it into the new iPhone? I'd assume the phone features would work, but would the 3G, visual voicemiail? Anything else? All help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Posted by: RF9

I assume it WOULD work just fine.

The problem is you have to go to a store to get the iPhone 3G, and they won't let you leave without activating it on an account with the iPhone 3G data plan. So if you can figure out how to get past them changing your data plan, I don't see why it won't work.

Posted by: terryjohnson16

I was thinking that the only way for people to get the iphone 3G is to go to ebay. After people commit to that 2 year contract but then come to their senses about the phone, they will post it on ebay just to recoup the money, and/or to pay the ETF.

The top and bottom are somewhat tapered, but the phone is not wider.

I cannot find anywhere where it says this one will have MMS. I guess it won't. Does that have anything to do with not using a sim card? It's a shame; MMS is part of what having a cell phone is all about! Can I get an amen?

Any GSM phone has to use a SIM card; that includes the iPhone.

The lack of MMS is strictly because Apple hasn't seen fit to implement it; since you get unlimited data, they're probably assuming you'll just use e-mail (which doesn't quite work yet, since many people don't have unlimited data on their own phones).

Posted by: fumblerooski

I've heard that MMS will be gone in a couple of years due to the fact that it's an inefficient way of sending data (little to no compression, takes up a lot of bandwidth, etc). This is just another case of Apple being too far ahead of the curve, as they say.

I just love how they will leave out a certain feature b/c they deem that it will soon be obsolete but will not include other features (ie A2DP) because they don't think they are quite reliable enough.

whats the difference between the 3G and the one before it?

That's a loaded question.
The one before it (2G) is GSM.
The main difference you will see is data rate speed. Think of GSM as being a 56K dial up modem. It's actually faster than that, but it's relatively slow.
3G is like high speed broadband. Like DSL or Cable modem.
GSM=about 200kbps max.
3G=800kbps typical. But 3G can eventually go to 7.5Mbps and beyond.

It affects phone calls too. 3G phone calls should sound a little better because there's more bandwidth.

3G is a brand new digital network. I uses the digital bandwidth completely differently. The phone will switch automatically between the two networks. So now with 3G you can use the 'new' network and also fall back to the old network when needed. Eventually GSM will be phased out a very long time from now.

Lastly, 3G can do data and voice calls at the same time. On GSM you can only do one or the other.

1G = Analog "AMPS" (now gone)
2G = GSM (first generation digital network)
3G = WCDMA (2nd generation digital network)

Well, I wish they had left the external shape alone (identical to the original iPhone), that way all my existing cases, pouches, holsters, cradles, docks, etc. would still fit just fine. Now I have to acquire a whole new assortment of stuff for the iPhone 3G. I wonder if they did it for that very reason - to spur accessory sales, or if they had a genuine desire to improve upon the shape of the device. Either way, it's taller, wider, and thicker than the original, but due to the tapered edges, the total volume contained may actually be less, so I don't think they did it to fit more stuff inside.

RE: the difference between 2G and 3G, for more technical information Wikipedia the following:
For 2G:
GSM (the voice component and underlying technology)
GRPS (the data component of GSM)
EDGE (A faster version of GPRS)

for 3G:
WCDMA (the underlying technology)
UMTA (the voice AND data component)
HSDPA (a faster version of UMTS)

There were 7 radios in the original iPhone, the iPhone 3G has 11 radios. Might have something to do with it.

Those are not official ITU terms, but are commonly used to designate technologies that are more advanced than the previous one, but don't qualify to be classified as next generation. Specifically, in the GSM world you have:In the CDMA world you have the following:

WiMax is another 4G technology, but runs on an independent (third) track, not related to legacy 2G and 3G technologies from the GSM and CDMA camps respectively.

well the 4G for the CDMA side has had almost zero interest from carriers around the world. verizon officially announced they are going with LTE for their 4G. wimax is often refered to as "3.99G" though i dont know why.

it just means its that much further along in speeds relative to the technology. so 3.5G is supposedly 1/2 a step closer to 4G. not exactly quite that simple, but that's the intention. so 3.5G means HSDPA (3.6Mbps and higher up to 14.4Mbps in the future), where 3G means UMTS (384Kbps max).

for GSM, EDGE is considered 2.75G i believe.

Posted by: RF9

Yeah, WiMax is totally separate. Though Sprint, which is a CDMA phone carrier, has adopted WiMax as a 4G, but it is separate (parallel business if you will) and not associated with the CDMA business at all.
WiMax is more data first, though I think they may get some kind of VOIP on it to add phone service at some point. I don't know too much about it.

Posted by: terryjohnson16

Sprint had to be the odd ball. I wouldn't be surprised if they changed their minds and went the LTE route. Imagine the phone support with everyone having LTE, and roaming on each other if thats allowed.

Posted by: XFF

True, WiMax is the odd one out. But on the other hand, WiMax is ready for deployment now (http://www.phonescoop.com/news/item.php?n=3122), whereas LTE won't even be trialed until 2010. That could give Sprint a nice edge and headstart in the 4G circus.

Posted by: RogerPodacter

i think sprint should seperate wimax completely as a stand alone broadband service. then upgrade their CDMA network to LTE when the time comes...

Posted by: Haas_Dave

Quote:

Isn't that why Sprint's merging its XOHM services with Clearwire broadband services and plan to sell 3G & WiMax spectrum to the merged Clearwire in the near future?

I don't see a one-standard adopted by every cellular company in the near future, but would be great to see someday. LTE adoption by many different companies (that previously used differing 2/3G standards) is one step closer to that.

Anyway, back to our regularly scheduled topic:
It seems to me the body design change (dimensions, mostly) probably was to keep the 3G model distinct from the first iPhone and maintain separate accessories (just like the 'flavors' of iPod have differing body shapes), but who's to know for certain.
It's pretty certain the change to plastics are to help the on-board GPS, but the old body mold/design didn't seem problematic for a triband 3G/quadband 2G device...

not sure if this has been asked

but any ideas if the new iphone will be capable o recieving and sendng pix msgs

has receptioned improved at all ? hurd lots of dropped calls with previous model

Posted by: Cheule

Boostdd, it's been stated by Apple that there will be no MMS. Which if you ask me is a good idea. I think MMS is a terrible format, and Apple did a great job of killing the floppy when it introduced it's iMac, and I think Apple is doing it's best to give us a MMS-free future. What will replace MMS you say? Once you own an iPhone you'll see it's all email attachment. Since most phones are going push email (including the iPhone) this seems like a great short-term solution to "how do I send a friend a picture."

The reception was anecdotally stated to be better because of the all-plastic back cover. But I'd like to say with certainty that the previous iPhone itself wasn't a poor design RF-wise and I've had less than 5 dropped call in the eight months I've owned it. What I think matters more is how good the GSM roll out is in your local area.

As always YMMV.

Posted by: Eric N.

This is probably a silly question but, I'm going to ask anyways.. I see from reading the tech specs on the apple iphone 3g page that it has Bluetooth 2.0+edr. Now reading that would make me assume that you can listen to your music and take calls with a stereo bluetooth headset (example the Moto S9). Is this correct? Can the Iphone 3G do stereo bluetooth AD2P and AVRCP? Or is it locked down so that you have to use either a corded set of ear phones or a singe (mono) bluetooth headset for phone calls only? I ask since I'm with Verizon and we all know what they do to some of their phones. I know it's not out yet so no one really knows for sure but, I thought maybe one of you folks might know.

Got specs from here. http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html

Posted by: Cheule

Eric,

There is currently no A2DP for iPhone (3G or otherwise). For more discussion on that, try this thread.

As far as the ability to listen to music and take phone calls, yes the iPhone can do that through the normal wired headsets. There just isn't any BT support for this, for reasons that we all like to debate about :P

No big difference. EDR is like having a bust of speed when being connected via bluetooth.

A2DP is stereo Bluetooth, which the iphone doesn't support.

Posted by: Eric N.

OK so the Iphone 3G only supports a mono bluetooth headset to take phone calls with but, no stereo support for music.. That sucks.. I quess I was just getting my hopes up when I saw that they had a bluetooth headset in their Iphone 3G accessories section and that it listed bluetooth 2.0 as a spec that they would have included A2DP which I feel is a big deal for a music phone.

Now I'm not going to say that the S9 or the T505 sound as good as a nice set of wired headphones/IEMs or an Aux jack in the car but, they aren't as bad as some other bluetooth headsets I've used. I will say that I was very surprised by the T505..

I use the S9 when I'm doing yard work or anything that I don't want wires getting in the way or snagging on some thing and pulling the earphone off or out of my ear or worse wrecking the cord.. So they have their place.. Now if I'm just listening to music and not doing anything that I'm worried about wires getting in the way, then I ussually use my Sennheiser CX300 or one of my other sets of headphones/IEMs depending on what source I'm using whether it's an mp3 player or home my stereo.

I was just hoping that I could get away from always carrying a bunch of different devices around all the time.

Posted by: Cheule

Sounds good. But for me the decreased sound quality isn't worth it. I hear you about the cable issue, and if all things were equal I would definitely opt to have no cord. As it is, I have two IEMs I use for "on the go," a Shure E2c and a SE 530.

Both IEMs route the cord over the back of your ears and then optionally down your back (or down your front depending on preference). There is a little macaroni piece on the base of the Y that allows you to tighten the fit behind your head. Then if I place my iPod/iPhone in my back pocket, no cord issues. Sure it's not the same as wireless, but for me it's the best I've worked out.

Anyhow I do understand people's cord dilemmas, I guess I just put sound and other conveniences (no battery, etc) above cord continence.

Hi.., whats up? everyone.

What I have heard from my friends who are working in "Rogers" that the iPhone 3G is releasing in Canada & USA on July 11th, 2008. They said the phone will be avaiable in store on July 11th but I am not sure about USA though.. looking fwd: to it but heard there are many important features normally we use are that in there... example:

1.) Less Volume (Again)
2.) NO Voice Calling and many more...

I would suggest everyone you should buy LG viewty phone instead of iPhone 3G.. LG viewty is awesome phone.. I bought my phone LG viewty from India.. ad it's so awesome...

The iPhone is released on the 11th in the US.

I can tell you've never used an iPhone. There is no comparison with the iPhone to any of the current touch-screen phones on the market. Sure on paper many phone look better feature-wise, but none of the other touch interfaces come close to Apple's patented Multi-Tap™ interface. Also, anyone that's run OS X knows how great it's multi-tasking is. And the version of OS X that runs on the iPhone is no exception.

I'm not saying that someone might find some of the features missing from the iPhone to be a show-stopper and prefer an LG instead, but I can just tell you've never driven one for any reasonable length of time to make a comment similar to "everyone get an LG instead of the iPhone, it's better."

I know the LG Viewty is supposedly marketed as a camera phone, not a iPhone killer, but look at the browser comparison (there isn't any!): LG Viewty versus Apple iPhone

(I almost didn't post a reply to you, seeing as you might be trolling me. I mean, posting something like that to an iPhone 3G thread in the iPhone forum... but I do love a debate, so bring it :P)

What Apple/AT&T gave us was that lame "viewmymessage.com" website.

I HATE THAT WEBSITE. IT HARDLY WORKS.

Posted by: Cheule

And it's such a complete pain in the rear to us that site without copy and paste.

Posted by: RF9

viewmymessages.com or whatever it is existed long before the iPhone.
It has always been there to support phones that can't receive picture messages, and there are (or were) plenty of those.
It's just wasn't intended to be used on a phone.
I agree, what a pain without copy/paste.

Can someone tell me what this means? Google translate is coming-up blank. Thank you.

In a news letter it said that iphone 3G has a facebook & myspace page. I couldn't look it up on a company pc, & my IE is too primitive to do a decent search for it. (warning: if you add iphone 3G to your friend or buddy list you're a certified geek) I'm just sayin'

Ya, I've already "cut the cord" quite literally with hedge clippers before on my old set of Shures and I'm always getting the cords caught on some thing no matter which way I seem to put them..

So do you only listen to lossless audio and if so how much lossless can you fit on an Iphone?

Posted by: Cheule

Actually I don't use FLAC or Apple Lossless on my iPhone or iPod because I find I cannot tell the difference between 320kbps and Lossless, and 320 is half the size.

I used an app called ABX to figure out that I couldn't hear the difference. Check it out, it's designed as a double blind test for exactly this kind of thing.

Just received info that July 11 the stores will open 8am "local time". You can turn in your existing iphone to upgrade to the iphone 3G. Even if you're not eligible for an upgrade you can still upgrade from your current iphone at the $199 & $299 price plus an $18 upgrade fee. If you don't have an iphone & you're not eligible for an upgrade you can get it at $399 (8GB). Of course, save your personal info before turning in the old phone. Iphone voicemail will be deleted when you upgrade, so get all your messages before-hand. Stores operate on a 1st come - 1st serve basis. I hope this info is useful.

According to this article you do not need to trade in your current iPhone to receive an upgrade price.

So they want you to choose one of those 4 national plans? AT&T are crooks.

My girlfriend also wants the 3g, but is not eligible for the upgrade.

She'd like to know if this is possible:

Shes in a family plan. Her grandmothers phone(in her fathers name) is eligible for the upgrade. Could she buy the 3g on her grandmothers number then the next day go back and switch the iphone from her grams number to her number and then activate her grams phone back on?

She will have to be Authorized first to make changes to the account. if she has full access online she could add her self to have access, if she does all she has to do is log in to the account online, then account overview, then my profile, and on the very bottom of my profile there is an option to add authorized user to make changes/ renew contract etc, to the account, once she does that as long as she is over 21 and has a photo ID, she can go to any store and do this, no sales rep will deny service once they had verify her name on the account and then she can do what she pleases including buying the new iPhone but once you buy it, you renew a full 2 year contract and i have been told (don't really know if its true) that you have to have a data plan for the full 2 years. ill find out more and let you know.

I have a Blackberry Curve now, and not due for an upgrade. I can't just buy the iPhone 3G and/or extend my plan?

If not thats insane... I am even willing to pay a fee to get it, I don't understand why they would make it unavailable for existing AT&T customers.

It's available for you, but for an additional $200 to the start price and still ups the contract to two years from activation.
The no-contract phone will be $599/699 if that's your fancy, but it seems this pricing won't be available at release.

Its available to you at the non-subsidized price which would be 200-400 bucks more, unless you just simply add a new line to your account with a new number in which you will pay more for the phone in the long run cus of adding 10 bucks per additional line a month, plus the 30 bucks data plan and up to 20 bucks for unlimited sms messages.

thats what we will be doing i had a Tilt and its completely broken, im getting a normal phone for that number and im adding an iphone as a new line to get the subsidized price of $199-299, only by adding the subsidized price of it i will be redoing my contract for another 2 years. i have already pre-check with a friend that works for AT&T and this is so far the info i have. i hope it helps.

I'm not gonna lie to you people - this has been a lame, boring forum. I'm used to it growing a couple pages a day. People fighting & arguing... So, I think it's about time we all started acting like a bunch of giddy school boys & girls about the new gadget this week. I'm starting a count-down. 4 DAYS till iday! I'm taking Fri off in case I have to wait outside the store the night before. I hope I won't have to, but... Anyone else planning on acting a fool like that? Speak up! Well i know il make my money back, but waiting in line is a pain in the a**

I'm probably going to take a half-day on Friday. Gotta pick the wife up from the airport and we're going to head to the Apple store as soon as she gets in so we can grab a couple of phones.

3 DAYS till iday!
What are some opinions on the times a line will start to form? I live in a small town with only an att kiosk. And it's relatively new, so maybe not many people will know it's there. I imagine a real att store in a bigger town will be claimed sooner than later.

Can anyone confirm or deny the rumor of the iphone's data feature being a part of the contract?

Example: AT&T will allow you to change or remove any feature such as text messaging right now with any phone without any penalties.

It's part of the contract. If you're found in violation of your iphone contract, you automatically authorize AT&T to re-add the data plan and bill you for the cost.

I have a theory on why the new iPhone isn't drastically better than the old one. It's only been 1 year, and all of the early adopters who stood in line to pay $600 to buy the first iPhone would have been furious if Apple released a markedly better iPhone 2.0. So maybe the plan was to release the 2nd iPhone with only a few upgrades that iPhone 1.0 users could add with a software upgrade, and make the 2nd one cheaper so that when iPhone 3.0 comes out a year later (with much better features), then iPhone 1.0 users won't be mad b/c it's been 2 years which is a more reasonable time frame to have to get a new phone, and iPhone 2.0 users won't be mad b/c they only paid $200-$300 for their iPhone.

What do you think?

can someone explain why verizon(cdma) wont work on these phones now?

Wirelessinfo just wrapped up our review of the iPhone 3G, here's the conclusion:

he iPhone 3G is the next iteration of Apple's immensely popular and iconic cell phone. In one short year it's managed to have a serious impact on the industry and with the iPhone 3G going global that's only going to get bigger. There are two big questions that we asked ourselves when writing this review, how good is the iPhone 3G all by itself, and how big an upgrade is it over the original iPhone? Let's start with the first question, the answer is that the iPhone 3G is a very good cell phone. It's an excellent media player, brings powerful business productivity featues to the table, especially with the Exchange integration, is one of the best music/video phones on the market and is just beautiful and a joy to use. Very few people will fail to be impressed by this device, and if you decide to spend your money on it you will likely be very happy with it. The one caveat we have is that battery life may be iffy, especially with the battery hungry 3G network. We'll be testing battery life shortly and will update this conclusion when we have those results.

To answer the second question we don't think the iPhone 3G is a huge upgrade over the previous iPhone. In particular we found it disappointing to see many features that we've been asking for like MMS, a better camera and copy & paste were not included. 3G is a mixed bag, yes it's faster but it also kills your battery much faster. One of things we liked about the original iPhone so much was it's very good battery life and it's a shame to lose that in exchange for 3G (potentially). In our mind the iPhone 3G is more of a 1.5 rather than a 2.0. We'd recommend to current iPhone owners that unless there's some compelling reason to upgrade just keep on holding on, there will be better things coming.

Read the full review here .

WCDMA is not CDMA, it is the evolution of GSM/EDGE/UMTS. The 3G CDMA standard is EVDO, which is used by Verizon and Sprint. I know it sounds confusing, but the bottom line is that phones that utilize WCDMA technology will not work on CMDA networks.

I'm going to be honest & say I don't know what "drivers" is referring to. Here's a spec list for it. Maybe your drivers will be in there:

You can get the iPhone without the Data Plan but you don't get the $50 Instant rebate.

Why not? The iPhone is a phone and it's not essential to get a data plan. I know I don't have one. I am around wifi all day, everyday, so having a data plan only for the 5 min drive to get my coffee is not worth it.

Posted by: Twitch2021

RFLush you've made the point right there without even meaning to. You're around WiFi all day which means you don't need a data plan and that's great. If you weren't around WiFi all day would you still be able to make use of your iPhone the way you want? Probably not. The data plans are great for people who don't have consistent access to WiFi like myself (the $30/6Gig plan is incredible ). Buying an iPhone and not using the internet features is like buying an escort to play checkers...

That's true.

And now a day's iphone are getting more Blackberry and blackberry is getting more iphonic.
