Any Way to Override Automatic Suspend on Treo 700w ?!?

a few days ago i dropped my treo 700w on the sidewalk. When I picked it up the screen immediately faded to black, and the phone would not turn back on. However, for some time it had the issue of not recovering from a soft reset until plugging it in to the charger.
When i plug it into the charger it turns on and boots, it then tells me that the battery is at 0% and it will automatically suspend to prevent data loss. That gives me less than 30 seconds. Worried it is some kind of short i took the phone apart and took everything off except the main board and the lcd touch screen. Still has the same problem...
I have already gotten a replacement for the phone, an extra one a friend had, the exact same model. My issue is that i need to get my contacts off the phone. Does anyone know if there is a way to override that automatic suspend?? or any other ideas??
