##778# Hack?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

has anyone done this to their touch? if so is it worth it by any chance?

thank you in advance. :]

what does that do??

Posted by: Reeno

You may have noticed that when someone calls you it may take several rings on their end before the Touch begins to ring. The reason for this delay is the “slot cycle index,” or how often your Touch polls the towers for an incoming call. Default appears to be about 5 seconds—way to long. You can change it to 2.5 which would be better but it would be poll to the tower more and use up more battery, im just wondering if anyone has done this and if it kills the batter a lot.

Is that only for Sprint??

yes, it should. also, ive heard of dial skins and other UI tweaks making it so you cant enter the ##778 menu, just my .02

-- ##778# Hack --

To do this, you will need your MSL number, which only Sprint (or your provider) can provide you.

1) Open up the phone app and dial ##778# (PST).

2) You will be asked to enter your MSL. Enter it, and you will be brought into the provisioning of your phone.

3) From the top left, select Modem Settings. On this page, your Slot Cycle Index (SCI) is how often your phone polls the tower for incoming calls, etc. This value is 1.28 seconds multiplied by 2 (i.e 0=1.28 secs, 1=2.56secs) with 0 fastest, 7 slowest. The default is 2, but lowering it to 1 hasn't noticeably affected my battery life, and roughly 2.5 second (SCI 1) response time is far more reasonable than roughly 5 seconds (SCI 2).

no it's not only for Sprint. if you're on another provider that doesn't include them with the phone download this cab file. Install it on your phone and it should add them for you. It also should fix the dialer skins that remove the ability to use the ## Codes.

how has battery life changed?

Hey, I tried the other program on my tilt with wm6.1 and it gave me an extra folder in my programs menu, and anything I would select I would get an error message.

Posted by: REAL

what about 4 the tilt

Posted by: MJ Wireless Inc

this would be nice to do. i am also interested to do it on the tilt. please provide info.

hmmm if ##778# doesnt work u can also try making a shortcut to ESPT.exe or something liek that in the windows folder and opening that up... can change the slot cycle index there... u will still need ur MSL code though

There is a very easy hack to get your MSL on going in to PST. If you have custom ROM you will need to delete your call history and then enter ##778 then send. It will usually not work unless you have your call history deleted.

I did this hack and changed my value to 0. The speed before my phone rings has drastically increased, however I have noticed periodically that the radio in my phone shops working. I am unable to make and receive calls untill a soft reset. I get a message to check my phone number and contact my provider. Anyone else experience this? Any solutions? maybe its just coincidence, I really don't know.

I have since changed my slot index value to 1. Will let you know how it works.

i set mine to 1....lets see what happens...

Posted by: mikesnickname

i reset my value to 2, at one it was still having problems staying connected to the network. Funny thing is that data would work but voice wouldn't. Anyone have a plausible explanation to my problem.

well my phone seems to work okay again after switching the value back to 2, i should not that i live in a very poor reception area, this may attribute to my problem.
