The iphone firmware is currently at 1.12 and i would like to update to the newest available but since im using it on rogers , what are the step to avoid my phone to become locked ?

Theres no way to keep it unlock if you want to update. Just update it and unlock it again.

Well i know i should search but im doing this for someone else and that person has no idea on how to update and unlock so that's why i started a thread like this hoping he just could read the step here.

Download 1.1.4 firmware, shift restore in Itunes using firmware you just downloaded, then JB and unlock using Ziphone 3.0. That's it

or use PWNAGE/WinPWN and BootNeuter to unlock it safely. ZiPhone has been known to cause various issues, and PWNAGE is 'official' Dev Team tool and works with iTunes well.
iLiberty+ works well too.

Do not use ziPhone. . . use iLiberty its easier.

Sync, and then back up anything that you could possibly think of on the computer. Then restore and then use iLiberty.

What if your on 1.0.2 and what to update to 1.1.4? I'm on the rogers network and want to desperately update!

The same. Just don't update to 1.1.1 first. It will get more complicated to do.

I used ziphone 3.0. I clicked "Do-it-All" and a few minutes later I had a jailbroken, activated and unlocked iPhone.

I haven't used iLiberty but how could it be any easier than that?

Is checking a box for exactly what you want any harder? ziPhone screw's with your BB and is known to cause stability issues.

iDemocracy does everything ziPhone does but better. iLiberty is good because you can choose some apps to preinstall so you don't have to install later on. Its a stronger iPlus, since the dev's who made iPlus upgraded it into iLiberty+.

I would advise you to restore and use iLiberty.
