Some serious questions...

Hey there,

I'm relatively new to the pocket pc world and have a few questions regarding the HTC touch (specifically the one offered by telus)

I have to renew my contract with Telus (in winnipeg) by the end of the month and have been debating which phone i would like to purchase.

I'm an extremely busy person and a pocket pc appeals to me, mostly for the Outlook conectivity. (organizer)

My current plan is:

Winnipeg Super talk 15 + 100 mins free

I really like the plan and it's affordable and definately fair imo, however i am thinking about getting the touch and a data plan, i don't plan on using the internet much on it, however i do like the option, and i do like getting the weather and sports/new updates on the touch

ok my questions:

1. Can i get much out of the touch without a data plan?

2. Can i download all my contacts and appointments from my computer?

3. Does the Touch provided by telus have the faster cpu? or is it the slower one?

4. Is telus getting newer versions of the phone? like the touch slide?

5. Would everyone reccomend the touch as a good organizer? with to do lists and reminders? (for instance does it have a good interface and is easy to use, and the reminders are practical?)

6. Should i try to get a data plan for a good price? would it even be worth it?

(i wouldn't use the internet much, just a little bit with email, weather and sports updates)

Thank you guys for all the great threads, i know some threads kinda answer some of these questions, but i'd like some oppinions, which is why i added my needs, and wants out of the phone.

I'd say about as much as any cell phone. It is definitely worth getting the dataplan though, IMHO. I'm with bell, and its only $7/month. I think Telus is more though.

You can sync with Microsoft outlook, or hotmail.

Not sure, I'd imagine the same as bell & other CDMA versions though.

I'd think so, but I don't use those features really.

Like I said, I'm with Bell, and the data plan is worth it, but I think it is cheaper than Telus offers.

Overall, the Touch is a wicked device, but kind of pointless without the data plan in my opinion. Its definitely a fun device to play around with, enhance, and use 3rd party software.

i use the mogul and i think it's great for appointments/reminders.. the interface IMO is very user friendly..

but if the data plan for for telus is semi cheap i would def. go for it.. there's a lot you can do with an unlimited data plan

im not too familiar with the telus touch, so anyone correct me if im wrong, but i do believe the telus touch has 400MHz processpr, 128MB RAM, No Wi-Fi, and of course 3G EVDO compared to the GSM's 200MHz, 64MB RAM, WiFi, and slow EDGE.

also the touch is kind of pointless imo w/o a data plan, but that's just my .02

Thanks for the replies, Why do you think the touch is pointless without the data plan? Could i not continue to use it as an organizer, and load games and applications from my computer? then decide from there if i want to get a data plan or not if i feel it suits my needs?

i'm not so sure i could get a 15$ unlimited data plan at my current phone bill (after everything it's $23.00 or so a month)

Just wondering since i have no idea how these things work, and i hope it is the CDMA version with the 400mHz processor.

well i guess it wouldnt be pointless, but i hardly use the organizer and stuff, and i use the phone more with internet things, like youtube and checking forums, so i guess for me it would be, but if youre looking to use the organizer and add games to it then i guess it wouldnt matter.

i think it is still a good phone overall even without data plan. but $15 unlimited is a really good deal.
