Bluetooth between Motorola V557 and Computer

I am trying to get my IBM T43 laptop to recognize my V557 and vice versa but neither can find each other and I'm lost too! Anyone know how to do this or if it can be done. I want to transfer some important text messages to my laptop and the phone manual says this is the only way to do it. Thanks in advance.
