My dad decided to water his phone to see if it will grow more...

Anything we can do to make it work again?

Boots and operates fine except it seems to ignore the fact thathe has a sim card in it.

I'd really rather get him back on this phone than have him use my old 8125.

Pull the card(s) and battery, leave it open, and put it a warm (140°F) oven - or better yet, a food dehydrator if you have one - for a few hours. Let it cool to room temperature before re-assembling.

A friend of mine used this technique to rescue my 35mm camera after it got dunked in a river, 'way back when.

Have your father buy another phone. Some button might be locked in the on position due to corrosion and cause unexpected results. A Samsung SYNC sells for as low as $65.00 on eBay.
