trouble installing .cab files

I've been at it for hours trying to figure out how to install .cab software on my blackjack 1. I know you're supposed to just sync the .cab file to the phone and open it from the file explorer, but I can't seem to find it. Or rather the phone doesn't seem to recognize the file. I've tried everything from unhiding the file extension on my computer to resetting my phone. I'm running WM6 on the blackjack 1. Any solutions to my frustration problem?

Are you sure you're using valid CABs? What are you trying to install?

My suggestion is to do a hard-reset.

hahah. nice trouble shooting. "hard reset". sheesh..

what are you trying to install? is your phone application unlocked? what file browser are you using? where are you saving the .cabs to? the card or the phone?

Well the OP didn't state if he was using an official or unofficial WM6 ROM, hence my suggestion for the hard reset.

why would it matter if its official or not? that really has nothing to do with any part of his problem.

well... yeah where are you trying to save your files too? and what is it that you are trying to install?

I have a blackjack 1 and had problems also trying to install cab files. I don't know much about them, I wanted to install tetris on my storage card. It seemed like it unzipped but doesn't appear anywhere. Anyone have directions on how to do this?

You don't unzip or extract a cab file. You transfer the cab file the phone, whether it's by USB or a Memory Card reader, and you open it up with a file browser on the phone, such as Total Commander.

Exactly. Actually, I am quite the noob that had this same frustration and basically toyed around with it and did some googling until I figured it out.

I just drag and drop the .cab file from my desktop to my storage card through ActiveSync (I never allow the device to sync automatically.) Then, it's a simple matter of going to FileExplorer and opening the .cab file. It installs itself appropriately.

The neat thing about this is that the application will be listed in the devices "Programs" folder, meaning that you don't have to use FileExplorer to access the storage card every time you want to run the app, AND the .cab file stays put on the SD card.

I am probably reviving an old thread, and I apologize to you Pros for that. I simply want to participate and learn, because browsing the web and watching movies on my Treo is great!
