Who will be camping out for the 3G iPhone?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: verizonplayah

I was in line 3 hours before the current iPhone launched last June. How many of you will be camping out this year for the new one? I will at least get there a few hours early again. It definetly adds to the excitement.

Posted by: Anisoul

Adds to "excitement"? Not really. I'll get mine the way I did last year. Walked right into the store.

Posted by: Wide_opeN

I may go up to the store and see if impulse takes over a hour early or so.

Posted by: MrDumbDumb

I heard the first 50 in line also get a code for 2 free video downloads from itunes and chance to be in the next pixar movie.

Posted by: free_gas

I'm sure that this guy will be 1st in line!

I'm a loser I'm a loser. I'm a loser I'm a loser I'm a loser, I'm a loser I'm a loser I'm a loser,, Oh Oh Oh, I'm a loser!

Posted by: Silent Witness

Uh, no.

Only time I like to campout outside a store is Black Friday in November and maybe a new video game console release that be kept for at least five years.

Apple knows how to mass produce. There should be plenty available in both AT&T and Apple stores when you walk-in that day.

Posted by: Samoa Joe

I would do it for the fun of it. Therefore, will be doing it if my friend will drive me to the mall and drop me off. My parents are gonna be like WTF are you doing Joe? "Oh, I'm just going to the mall for 3 or 4 hours to get the new iPhone". They're gonna flip when they see I'm buying the new one.

Oh well I guess. Its my money right :P

Posted by: free_gas

They should put out a disclaimer at the front of the line...

"All of you in line are about to get hosed! in 31 days from today there will be a massive price drop if this thing is not selling!"

We will not be handing out rebate coupons!

Seriously I would stand in line just for the free star bucks and t-shirts though!

*Don't forget to bring your Eee pc's loaded with Hacked OSX ready to jailbreak and unlock this new bad boy! Someone needs to set a record.. released 6pm.. PWND at 6:15pm

I really hope that iPhone 2.0 is available to jailbreak. It would make me want it a hundred times more.

Zibri claims he allready figured out how to jb 2.0

Posted by: Samoa Joe

No way?! Is 2.0 in BETA testing I'm guessing?

i'll be waiting a month perhaps

Posted by: TDBearCT

I'm waiting for a confirmed jailbreak/unlock before I buy a 3G iPhone.

Eh, I actually will do that now. Good idea Jim!

Posted by: Hoshnasi

Might have to wait till its gets unlocked. My Fiance takes me leaving TMobile to AT&T as though I am leaving her. Also, because we rack up a ton of minutes and frankly without the mobile 2 mobile the bill would kill me.

I'm looking for a cheap used iPhone right now to unlock to tide me over till I can get one.

Of course it adds to the excitement! What are you talking about? Here is a perfect example, for me at least... I would rather see a movie in theaters the day its released then wait to rent it when it comes out on DVD. Thats how I see it at least.

I mean I think back to when the current iPhone came out. People were fighting over who was in front of who in the line. It was crazy but exciting.

AT&T has refurbs again.

Haha ya I guess it depends where you live. Around me, only the dedicated get an iPhone on release day, and that require sacrifice!

Posted by: cingular#1

i will be posting a live stream on ustream.tv of being in line...watch

Posted by: fumblerooski

I'm waiting to get a confirmation of Exchange support, then I'll drop the dough. I know they showed it in the Beta but it needs to be on the phone before I buy it, not released a few months later. I'm thinking they will confirm this before the phone actually drops.

Posted by: anmoldagreat

unless theres a whole lot more than 3g i will be waiting til iphone 3.0

Posted by: jslappa

And let's get one thing straight here....Even IF Zibri has jailbroken/unlocked the 2.0, that has nothing to do with the new iPhone. Do any of you really think that the bootloader is going to be the same as the the old iPhone? Most likely Apple has laid the smackdown on that company to add better security this time around.

What will impress me is if the Dev Team can get Pwnd to load custom firmware and bypass the whole "baseband" issue. Either way, I want one on day 1. I am on AT&T so I can wait for the unlock.

Posted by: odnerd

I feel like a loser but I will be waiting in line the day it comes out. My Tmobile contract is up 4 days before the rumored launch so it's like a sign...

Posted by: CyniKal.Mindset

they should screw the losers that camp out and accept customers from the back of the line first...thats what I would do...reverse engineer their asses

Could you imagine if Apple decides to not release the 3G iphone in the U.S. but instead to first launch it to the rest of the world and make the U.S. wait?

Posted by: Wide_opeN

Yeah that would be terrible. However, Apple I believe is one of the few companies left that want to show American pride.

Therefore, they'll release it here first just like they did before.

I won't be waiting in line, but I'll definitely swing by the Apple store on day 1 or two -- there were plenty of phones available after last year's launch so I'd imagine it'll be the same again for v2.

Posted by: DaRtHXtC

I have to agree that I won't be camping out, but will swing in to my local Apple store before work to pick it up.

Posted by: xbox360gamer

I damn sure wont be camping out. after all, what good will a 3G iPhone do me when we don't have 3G service in my area yet?

oh well.....

I dunno, there wasn't as much hype before since alot of people had no clue what it was going to be like and now if the rumors of a subsidized price are true every kid and his rich mommys going to be there...

American pride with products that are made in China?

huh?

Posted by: tks989

that subsidized price does nothing to offset those ridiculous rates. not to mention 3G rates. I'll be using it with Edge on T-Mobile just fine.

Posted by: Saoirse1916

It certainly does for me -- I'm paying $80/mo on VZW now, so $59.99 sounds lovely to me.

3G rates? I can't see AT&T changing the rates on the data for 3G iPhones. Seeing that most of the phones out right now are 3G and there's no difference in plan pricing on them.

AT&Ts rates are the same for EDGE and 3G...

Dude, everything comes from China. Even stuff acually made in America are built with parts from China...

As far as I know they're exactly the same. I'm sure that lots of people will just be upgrading their phone from the original iPhone to the 3G iPhone so that I feel would be a mess to try and changing all those data rates if they were to change.

Posted by: ruffdeezy

I will be camping out for sure, probably not until its released in canada though later this year.

I've never camped out or made a line for any product in my life, last year i walked into an apple store 3 days after release and bought one. I usually laugh at people standing on line and camping out for a product. I dont find that to be the least bit exciting, Its usually alot of weird geeky people on those lines, the 30-year old living in moms basement with a vast comic book collection types.

We made an afternoon out of it. About 4 or 5 co-workers and I, all sat outside an AT&T store (outdoor strip mall) with a cooler of beverages to keep us company while we were waiting.

Turns out, that store only had 12 phones allocated to them in inventory. Oops. Went to the big Apple store in the mall the next morning at 10:01 am, and was out the door in 3 minutes.

Same here. If they, for some odd reason, release the 2nd gen iPhone before the 2.0 firmware, I'll wait too.

What the hell? What's your problem? If someone is excited about something why not let them have their fun?

And "Reverse engineer their asses" ? Do you even know what reverse engineering means?

Built in China but designed in America (California to be specific as it always indicates on their products). That's a huge difference. It's just to keep costs down (or profits up...)

Doesn't "reverse engineering" mean piss off your customers? That's what I though it meant...

I can't tell if you're joking, but in case you're not here's a quick explanation.

Reverse engineering is usually applied to electronics but it can be applied to different things I guess. Anyway reverse engineering is the process of taking something, like maybe a computer chip, and figuring out how it works by using some kind of methodical approach. When you're done you would know how to get it to do what you want it to do without having the original company supply you with documentation.

Wikipedia can explain it better than I can. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reverse_engineering

Posted by: Saoirse1916

Hahahaha, yeah I was joking -- it's hard to portray effective sarcasm when typing sometimes. I was expanding on this comment that you made:

lol you guys are too much. you can't really say anything to me, or are you the cool hofo kid that is not geeky and has plenty of self esteem...because me waiting outside a store for an amazing, ground breaking product means I need a job and I need self esteem....right. Please, explain. I'd love to hear your reasoning.
