Since Fido and Rogers are now offering unlimited web browsing for $7 a month I thought it might be a good idea to upgrade from the crappy KRZR to phone with a full web browser and QWERTY keyboard. The only features that I need are a full physical keyboard, the ability to edit documents in a word processor, a full web browser and most importantly a phone that goes under the $400 CAD price mark with no contract. I've been considering the 9Qh and the blackjack 2, but I'm open to any suggestions.

There is currently no phone available that has a full QWERTY keyboard and is eligible for the the $7/month browsing add-on. The aforementioned phones are all classified as smartphones and require the much more expensive smartphone data plans.

It seems as thought your right. After I was told about the plan from Fido they said that the phone didn't matter as long as you did use it as a modem or do Voip calls from the phone. I thought the deal was too good to be true but I kept asking the salesman the conditions and he said that those were the only two. But now that I've actually checked the add-on it says that the phone has to eligible for the promotion. Either way I've wanted a smartphone for quite a while and I'd be willing to speand some extra dollars a month to browse the web on it.

It depends what you are used to. Some people really don't like the wideness of smartphones, so in that case you are better off with the Blackjack II. However, the Q9 has a better (less squished) keyboard, so if you can accept more bulk you'll be better off.

yeah the Q has a much better keyboard over the blackjack
the BJ does have a good form factor though!
i prefer the better keyboard though.. i can deal with the wideness and the screen is wide which is nice
