Spend some time with customer support...

I am considering an iPhone family plan this summer. 2 iPhones, 900 minutes, unlimited text. I've read about people not being able to get "premier discounts" on iPhone plans. What exactly is the premier discount? Where do you get them? My fiancee has a "perks-at-work" program that offers 24% off monthly service from AT&T. Nowhere on it does it say "premier discount". It looks like a seperate thing. I spent some time on the phone with CS and they told me that it should apply just fine and I told him to note that in my current account if they give me crap about it at the store. But i don't want to commit to a contract if it won't apply. Has anyone had any luck with this kinda stuff on their iPhone plan? If they don't apply, and he told me they did and he noted it in the account, should I have some case for getting it anyways even if it's not allowed...

Premiere discounts do not apply to iPhone plans.

The only "work-around" that has been found is to have a family plan - but have your first/primary line on that plan something other than an iPhone. Then if you add an iPhone as your 2nd line, you get the premiere discount on the voice portion (not the data).

Which means that someone in the family won't be rockin' an iPhone.

like i said, i don't think this is a "premier discount"...I'm not sure how i know what a premier discount is or isn't, but this seems to be something different and the guy at AT&T told me it should apply just fine but I want to make sure before I got into a store ready to sign up

i'm pretty sure it's not a premier discount...there's no place to go online or anything to sign up, it just says to take your paystub into your local AT&T to prove you work there and you get the discount...

That's the same thing. It may be called something different where your wife works. What toomer said stands true.

well from what i've seen, premier discounts require you to login on the at&t website and whatnot...none of this is supposed to happen. Either way, why would the guy at customer support tell me that it works if it doesnt. It sounds like i can make a case for it since i told him to note it in the computer, hopefully he did.

Not all premier discounts are done on the web, any discount of monthly service with ATT is considered premier discount. Its not the discount that is premier it is the cutomer receiving the discount, they are considered a premier customer.

If you get an iPhone that discount will not apply to your service anymore, CS rep that you talked to probably was not trained correctly.

I'm sorry about this but I have one too and since I got the iPhone it does not apply anymore

Posted by: sumx4182

well that kinda sucks...i'll have to go into a store and ***** a little "I was told over the phone this would apply!" and see if i get anything out of it, haha

Posted by: spartacus13b

the sucky thing is that they cant do anything about it, the system automaticly stops taking off the discount once an iPhone is put on the account. the dicount is still on your account but it just doesnt get taken off

Posted by: sumx4182

hm...that blows...well, my fiancee was not 100% set on an iphone, so we'll see what she wants...it just sucks cause the plan is a good deal. 900 minutes, data, and unlimited text for 100 bucks before the discount. The closest i can come to that with a voice + iPhone data would be 550 minutes, $20 iphone data, + unlimited text for like, $110, how does THAT make sense?

Posted by: sumx4182

plus, how is a individual 900 minute plan 59.99 and a family 550 minute plan is the same price? their pricing is so screwed up! lol

From my understanding is that if you have a family plan the only thing that isn't discounted for the "premier customer" account is the data for the iPhone line. Is this correct?

Posted by: sumx4182

if you have a family plan, and you add an iphone to the plan, do you pay 20 for unlimited messaging, or 30 dollars. The rates are different between the two.

From what I understand of the plan I setup when I got my iPhone is that my fiance and I got the 1400 minute family plan with unlimited texting but no data which is 119.99/month. So we then had to add the $20/month for the iPhone data+texting but the texting on the iPhone gets bumped up to unlimited because on the unlimited texting plan on the family account. That's at least what the local AT&T rep told us.

Posted by: sumx4182

so you're essentially paying 89 for the plan, 30 for texting, and 20 for the data...that's what i was afraid of...unlimited texting for an iphone family plan is 20 and not 30, so that's 10 more bucks you SHOULD be saving...cell phone companies are nuts, lol

I have one of the old fam plans so it's a good deal but if I want to add another iPhone it's anothe $20.00 for the data plan. That is why my wife won't get an iPhone too.

i was told by an att store employee that discounts can now be applied to total bill.

i guess she was wrong?
