hey you guys I did some searching but couldnt find the answer I was looking for.

I just got a iPhone which works perfectly with tmobile 19.99 data plan.

Everything works amazingly at my house but when I go to my girl friends house I have no reception. So my question is do I need reception/edge to work in order for the wifi to work?

As of right now I can't get on her wifi.

But everything works fine when Im at home.

WiFi is completely independent of EDGE or your voice network. You should be able to use your WiFi even if you have zero cell service.

I would check the settings you have or the settings of the WiFi network you're trying to connect to.

There are so many different reasons that WiFi wouldn't work -- on any device, not just the iPhone -- DHCP issues, encryption types, WiFi signal strength, channels, hidden SSID, etc.

well I got it to work. Its that the hotspot router I had does not work with the iPhone. Probably some settings tmobile did. But I had another router and it worked. Whoo hoo
