checking email out of range

Hello everyone.

I thought that with Iphone you can listen to your messages even if you outside the At and T range, since all messages are downloaded to the phone. However I cannot, I get network error, meaning I cannot listen. Am I wrong with my assumption?

You would need to either be connected to EDGE or wifi to check your email.

From my experience, visual voicemail is sometimes only downloaded during initial playback of the voicemail... So if you're out of range with a new voicemail still waiting to be listened, it may need cell network connections to retrieve it.

Makes no sense...I can see all the voice mails on my screen and where they coming from, however I cannot listen to them. That tells me it was downloaded to my phone somehow, sometime. But still cannot listen when I am out of range.

I misread your post. I somehow thought there was email somewhere in there, that is why I mentioned it. Sorry.

Now wait, I just went back and re read the title to this post. It says checking email out of range. Your post says something about checking voicemail. That is why I got confused, your title does not match the post. Heh.

You right. My mistake.
But still have no answer how this voicemail works?

It works the way you expect it would. I just put my phone into "Airplane Mode" (all radios shut off) so that I was absolutely sure I had no signal.

I was able to listen to any voicemail that I had stored.

Why it's not working right for you - no idea. You didn't jailbreak/hack your phone - did you?
