anybody tried this?

AT&T sucks for signal in my area, south florida. I am thinking of switching to t-mobile or even saying bye-bye to iphone and going to verizon if they have a good smartphone

so this gadget would make me happy if it works
anybody know?

I use one. I like the case..blacks-out the shiny parts of the iphone. I think it's more of a head-game, but the iphone's fieldtest app seems to indicate it does provide improvement. And most folks would cover the antenna with their hand went talking on the iphone.

The real fix..helper..would be an active cell-signal booster. I've got one and it does help big time especially when driving on back roads..really helps the battery life. But, expect to pay US$250-450 for one. I used it mostly at work otherwise the building I normally reside doesn't receive a cell signal from any carrier. With the case I can get a weak signal (without the active booster) on all floors except the 1st.

I like the case but would not buy it for just the antenna thingy.

thanks,
where did u get the active booster? do u carry it with you? does it need power?

I got mine from a local store. All such units need power; mine is a 12v model that handles all US carriers except nextel. It's a jdteck (jdteck.com) unit several years old. Their are models that connect directly to the phone -- adaptor required and a external antenna port on the phone is required -- and others that do not -- they have two antennas. I think I've even seen a brand advertised here on HF.

As such, I usually leave it at work and place it in the car when traveling out of town. It's not meant to be a "carry it with you thing". Haven't seen a unit that was totally portable..would be more practical to carry a bag phone if they still exists.

You do need to make sure you get the one that's compatible with your carriers frequency, etc.
