Treo 650 to iPhone - how to move contacts over?

I am getting my iPhone today. After a few days of reading on here and other iPhone hack pages I feel pretty confident on what I need to do. Now w/ all the jailbreaking, hacking, etc i forgot one of the most important things.......contacts.

Currently I have a Treo 650 and I sync all my contacts w/ Palm Desktop. (I dont use Outlook). I also have all my contacts on my Sim. I read that contacts isnt stored on the iPhone, so how can I import my contacts from the Treo desktop to itunes then sync it w/ the iPhone.

Thx!

Do you have Outlook on your computer? If you do, just set your Palm to sync into Outlook. Then sync iPhone in iTunes with Outlook. Otherwise it might be a little more involved. Its not hard though. Or...go into an AT&T store and they will dump all your contacts for you (i think??? )

Or try this link on Apple forums.

I had a 680 and also used Palm Desktop. Unfortunately I just kept that open w/ Outlook and cut/pasted stuff over. Not the most glamorous ways, but it worked.

1) You can export contacts from Palm Desktop to a Microsoft Excel format (.csv?), then import them into Outlook. You have to add a first row and specify headings, I think (Name, address, city, phone, etc.).

2) You can go to an AT&T store and they can transfer your contacts from your old SIM card onto a flash drive, if you have one. (Don't let them tell you they can't do it, they can!) Then, you can transfer them from your flash drive onto your computer into Outlook.

3) Manually, one by one. Time comsuming, but 100% guaranteed.

When I switched from Nextel to my BJ II, it was a complete mess. All the contacts with multiple #'s were butchered (AT&T transferred for me.) I ended up having to rework about 90% of them. But when I went to iPhone a few weeks later, it was a breeze.

you can bluetooth a package of it to your computer and it will sort it all out... that is if you have a mac

- Download & install Outlook Express (freeware)
- Reinstall your Palm Treo CD
- When it asks if you want to use Palm Desktop or Outlook, choose Outlook.
- When you first setup your iPhone, choose to import contacts & calendar from Outlook.

are you using a Mac or a PC? Macs syncs contacts between Treos and iphones/ipods automatically with iSync. Not sure if it's available on the PC though.
