I was just wondering does anyone know when the new 4.5 OS is going to be released by RIM and also i wanted to know if anyone had the google maps that are downloaded and don't have to work by via internet or EDGE.

I have said it before and the mods have even not agreed with me, but I am STILL betting we will see a device (9000) with the new OS before they release the OS for the older models.

I don't even expect them to rush it. If it isn't broke don't fix it. I would like the video recording though.

Exactly. OS 4.5 for older models might keep existing users from upgrading to the 9000 right away.

I think it's safe to say that it looks like 4.5 for the curve isn't gonna happen.

Based on what information?

4.5 will be released this summer in June or July. It will be released for the 83xx, 88xx and 81xx series.

It has been delayed due to minor beta problems.

Be patient. RIM will release it when its ready.

Luckily the Verizon Curve running OS 4.3 has MOST of the 4.5 enhancements, though not all.

Can an OS add video recording?

It's definitely going to happen, it's just taken longer then many people have anticipated.

OS 4.5 does enable the video capture option.

Posted by: NJBlackBerry

Video recording is dependant on the model - I don't think the 8100 will have video recording.

Even if/when RIM releases it, it still has to go through the carriers to get an official version. What are the odds of ATT releasing an OS after the replacement device will already be out?

Blackberry Bold/9000....Besides it was supposed to be released at the end of last year now their saying june/july? Don't believe the hype. RIM does not need anything clashing with sales of their new Bold release. Since the 4.5 has video and other capabilities that are similar to the Bold, people like myself would be reluctant to switch over to the bold right away. 4.5 on the curve it's simply marketing suicide. There is with out a doubt a full 4.5 version with bugs fixed but it's highly doubtful that RIM will ever release it. There is no way in hell that an OS takes as long to finish as 4.5 has. If you believe so I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.

Oh, so you are guessing. Got it.

I'm not one to believe the hype. Check out some new information on http://www.berryreview.com/2008/05/...o-rim-partners/ posted today.

Sounds credible to me. May be hype to you.

What is the difference for us CDMA users? From what I know, the differences between the 4.3 and 4.5 so far is

EQ in the music player...i know there are more changes, but what else???

I know for the GSM people there are a ton of changes, but my opinion is that they'll bring it out whenever its ready, regardless of the BB Bold. If a company of that size would have to think about not releasing or releasing the new OS later then scheduled just for a new phone(bold), they must have huge problems in the future. BB is a pretty successful company, they know what they are doing. Look at all the new phones that are out or gonna be released this summer. Its not their own phone they have to compete with its other companies bandwagon ways.

We'll be fine.

I think HTML e-mail and editing Microsoft Office document are the other big changes for 4.3 users on CDMA.

Posted by: NJBlackBerry

I believe HTML e-mail requires BES to be at the right level. It is not a basic component of Handheld OS 4.5.

"This is promising news since it usually means that the official OS 4.5 release is not that far off.

I guess if you constantly read stuff like this week after week for months on end it will begin to sound credible. Sounds pretty funny to me.

I've used 2 versions of 4.5. Beside the cosmetics, there has been no reason for me to use the beta. It is still too buggy for my taste. My Curve will stay on 4.2 until 4.5 is out of beta (or I find a stable 4.5 )

I also had 4.5 on my curve and the only real improvement was the video and voice recorder which was a big plus. There were also a few other minor improvements but they weren't enough for me to stay on 4.5. I also didn't like the fact that BBsmart didn't work on 4.5 since it didn't have HTML email.

The equalizer is also a nice feature on the 4.5 music player.

Meh -- it's out when it's out. Clicking the Refresh button on HoFo won't make it come any faster. It will actually probably seem to take longer...
