How can I use my Upgrade option?

I am a current iPhone owner and I am eligible for an upgrade. I want to purchase a Razr2 as a backup phone but my local AT&T sales person said I would have to switch data plans as the Razr2 would then become my primary phone. He said the data plans are different which I already suspected.

Of course if I don't use the upgrade option then the price becomes significantly higher. Another option is to purchase an Unlocked phone but again the price is just as high.

Thanks for your comments.

Can't you just get the upgrade phone from AT&T and then possibly change your data plan online to the iPhone data plan? This might be better answered in the AT&T forum.

As an RSC at a COR store I would just do the upgrade for you and not change the sim. Then change the IMEI back to the iPhone.

Wouldn't be any hassle at all, just explain what you want to do to the RSC and he/she should be happy to do it for you.

If for some reason they "have to" change the feature codes, they would be fine with it as well because they would get the feature on it.

Thanks for your comments.

My only concern is that I don't have to reactivate the iPhone after all is said and done. I'll probably call customer service and see if they know.
