Dropped calls, phone doesnt work and they wont replace it, they want me to sign for 3 years and get a 100 dollar discount. they're thieves.

Posted by: EricMammoth

...You have an a640. No wonder.

Posted by: OCZ

lol @ OP....replace an A640....DUDE!!!! BELL DOES NOT REPLACE PHONES OVER 30DAYS OLD!!!!!

The manufacture does and ONLY if they want too....why would they replace it...please enlighten us?????

Heck, who the hell replaces a phone or anything that is over 1yr old???!!!! heck, your phone is close to 2yrs old!!!!!!!

and please....Rogers has the same HUG option and so does Telus....so are they all thieves??????

DUDE!!! CHILL OUT!!!!!

if you dont want to use the $100 HUG....then dont...and buy some cheap *** phone off of Ebay or craiglist!

Posted by: mikesnickname

lol.. no way.... welcome to bell and their legendary customer service. out of curiosity how long have you been on contract?

Posted by: EricMammoth

I suggest you buy a replacement from third party. Check cellarama.com, buysell.com, kijiji.ca, craigslist, eBay, etc.

..Today I got out of a640 hell by getting a u740 for $100. Man, what a phone..

But wait, you've been a customer since 1976, so you get a Motorola RAZR2 for $0 with no contract extension because you are so valued.

Wait, nevermind, you're like 80% of the customer base where you get a decent hardware upgrade every 24 months.

You can only blame YOURSELF for signing the contract.

You agreed to 36 bill payments, but Bell stole from you. Simply stunning!

On top of all this you bought a Samsung a640, quite possibly could be the Samsung "LG Chocolate" of find workmanship.

Bell, up the SAF, I need a decent summer vacation.

Posted by: JusticePain

What do you mean, dropped calls? Been with Solo since '06, and despite having questionable reception in my flat, I have a record ONE dropped call in nearly three years.

Wanna talk about dropped calls? Nothing beats the old Fido network. Worst. Nightmare. Ever.

Posted by: EricMammoth

Believe it or not, my a640 seemed to treat me fairly well considering what it's intent was. It never dropped a call except once in downtown Toronto, call quality was at least passable, and the battery was okay. The only problem was it bored the @$!* out of me. Now with my u740 I've just realized how amazing phones can be.. (Internet, maps, chat, etc etc....)

Yes man! I love your $0.02 inputs!!!!!

you forgot that they only gave him $100 HUG because his ARPU is like $30/mo lol......

I have csx who pay close to $1500 on their bill and they dont complain! lol.....

I have to agree, using All my past phones in Kingston {And surrounding areas} Ontario, i never dropped 1 call, that includes the Verizon phone that had a software problem.

I can think of a couple of modifications to the HUG program that im sure would work great, but essentially as it is right now, it takes a long time to build up a decent credit for the average customer. But at the time of signing, you were given $200 towards a new phone. If you decided to use that against a cheap phone, so that you don't have to pay anything out of pocket, then you should have expected something like this. You can't blame Bell because you were enticed by the $0 price tag on that phone.

You should be glad there is any type of HUG program in place with Bell/Telus/Rogers. But you shouldn't be shocked that we're telling you to lock into another contract if we give you any amount of money towards a phone.

Right now it seems that it takes like 18 ish months to build up $100 rebate and then in the course of 6 months it jumps to $250. I really don't have a problem with it.

you dont, I sure dont....but some dude who has 1+ yr old phone does have a problem with it!

I need to know why the OP wants Bell to replace the phone for him....????

I mean, is it a Bell product???? NO!!! it is Samsung....why didnt he call Samsung????

why do ppl think Bell is the company who made the phone????? Bell doesnt fix phones!!!! Bell doesnt do anything with phones except sell them and provide you with a service....!

Posted by: MacD

The only improvement I can think of at the moment, is if you're a new customer and get $200 towards a phone, but the retail price of the phone is say $150, then your HUG should automatically start at the difference ($50) and build up from there, to the max of $250. Still having to renew if they choose to use it of course.

It's money the company was willing to give to the customer anyway. It's just that the handset they chose, was less than what they had available.

Of course, Bell wouldn't go for it. But anyways..

Well technically it does have Bell software, branding and the Bell name printed on it .

However, I agree the phone is over a year old. The warranty is over. If the OP had called Samsung they would have said the same thing (minus the handset upgrade of course).

That's why I love being in the Tech department, let Client Care deal with the new phone pricing. I'm here to say your warranty died yesterday or a week ago when it went fishing.

but if the phone isn't working properly (even during the warranty period), because they are crappy phones, then how does the customer expect to get service?...Bell chooses which phones to carry...they could always choose to carry phones that are of better quality...they have no one to blame but themselves...they have created this mess all on their own in an effort to get the cheapest phones so they can flog $0 phones out at mass quantities.

Posted by: frankie5string

I thought the a640, aside from the Olympic model wasn't really around that long. But it was flogged like crazy as a zero-dollar option.

I agree, it was really a terrible phone... Just like the non-colour model before it - the squarish flip. Those phones had major reception issues - I don't know how he did it but my dad managed to convince bell at the time to let him upgrade to a cheap nokia (the one with the dorky lights up and down the side) and that's been fine ever since.

It wasn't really Samsungs fault - pretty much every IS-95 and IS-2000 phone of that era was a bust because of the chipset that ended up in them.

Even the motorolas at the time had patch-work software in them to get around some of the really quirky reception issues those chips had!

Yeah, I've rarely had dropped calls on Bell. Its obvious the OP has faulty hardware.

You're in the tech department? Then I have a bone to pick with you! (or one of your colleagues no less). A week ago at around 2pm on a Thursday afternoon I tried numerous times to make a long distance call only to be greeted with a fast busy every time I called. I made a *611 call only to get a fast busy also. So finally I tried to cal the 310BELL to get through and it worked (by the way all local calls worked). When I got through to the tech department some dude comes on the line asking me what he can help me with.

I tell him that I get fast busy everytime I make a long distance call and he goes "well if you're able to call me right now then that means everything is fine". Terrible.

I hung up and then I called back because I didnt believe him and I got some girl who kept putting me on hold every 3 minutes for 5 minute at a time before i just had to hang up cuz I had to go to work. I'm guessing she was either in training or calling her helpdesk to figure out how to solve my long distance issue. Thank goodness a few hours later it just started to work again.

Normally I'm not a complainer and my Touch drops calls all the time and my screen is wonky in that its not responsive anymore. I never call in or anything but that time I really needed to make my call. I'm sensible enough in that at least if I notice the phone always drops calls in my house its my location and nothing to do with how crappy Bell's network is. I figure when Bell thinks its worth it to put a tower closer to me it'll do it, no amount of me calling in and complaining is going to make that change. People just have to realize that cell phones are not landlines. They dont operate the same way and just aren't as reliable.

Reminds me of that time I called Fido for a simple billing mistake. Girl puts me on hold for 5 minutes, comes back and says she's still working on it, hold for 5 more minutes, and comes back. Repeat for half an hour.

I'm a patient person and knew she was in training. But I would still prefer she'd put me on hold for the time required to do her thing. Instead I got that anticipation feeling that she's finally done everytime the music stopped only to be told to wait some more

But hey, company procedures, can't put custumer on hold for more the x minutes at a time.

My first call to Bell was also special.
Me: Hi, I'd like to have my account number to sign up on the My Bell website.
Dude: Sure, may I have your account number?

lol wish I could help you, but I do tech support over email for another carrier.

However, what I can say is that it's all about being lucky enough to get an agent that happens to know what to do for the for your specific issue.

I had an A640 before I got my touch and in all honesty I never had any problems with it. Granted it was a boring phone without any really cool features, but it worked. Well there was one problem with it, it shut down by itself. Never could figure that one out but it really only happened when I was at my girlfriend's family's place. But they're out in the middle of no where on Lake Erie. The only signal I used to get there was a very weak digital roam from the US.

As for the reasons why I went for the A640 well, I had a A680 before it that broke (the casing around the antena cracked and the antenna would fall out make it unusable). The phone was roughly 16 months old when this happened. I called into costumer support and asked if there would be a chance that I could get my HUG early (I figured two months wasn't really all that much to ask), and was flatly told no by the first person I called into. I asked to speak to a manager and she put me on hold, two minutes she said that I had no option but to buy another phone off of them and wait out the 2 months before the HUG.
I called in again a few days later and got another women who was acutally quite nice. She said that while they couldn't give the HUG she would give me a credit on my account for two months of service (roughly 100 bucks). I was placated and I bought the A640 thinking it would do me for a while. Which it did.

Now i have my touch. and it rocks.

Posted by: EricMammoth

Hmm did your a640 drain unusually fast when roaming? It seemed that when I was in China the battery would drain in a few days left on standby.

Posted by: frankie5string

I believe there were 4 or five different software versions amongst Bell a640s... perhaps people who favoured well with them got later models... I've only had experience with the initial release...

Kinda similar to the old Motorola 7867 - predating the Timeport... it came with the original "generic" and the bell flex... and it had problems. But the service centers all had a newer Canadian version of the software to go with a newer Bell flex that actually made the little phone reliable and usable... I remember the same thing happened with the Timeport 8767 I had too!

ON another note, the dropped calls isnt the phone problem because my friend has a KRZR and it drops his calls too. Also, I relaise its out of warranty, but i realize now it was faulty from the beginning. I cant do anything, i guess i was just mad when i was making the thread. well, I didn't really notice when I was roaming (ie: well beyond the border) rather it would drain really quickly if it was in an area where it got two very weak signals (one roaming one local).

OP....Rogers ETF is 400....just FYI...lol....so dont whine if u have to cancel Rogers.....

also I wouldnt get excited over the LG Slider....lol......I heared nightmares with that phone!

Posted by: angekfire

I've had bad experiences with LG. Was likely the phone.

Posted by: mikesnickname

lol.. lg doesnt know how to make good gsm phones. Their cdma ones are actually very good quality.

Posted by: angekfire

I had one LG phone, and overall, the quality wasn't great. Few options on it, very basic, but it was sturdy and worked well. I dropped that thing more times than I can count.

Then I got a Fusic. Not sturdy, not good quality, had more features, but they were very poor quality, and sometimes just didn't work.

Overall, unimpressed.

Posted by: reeneebob

I think it's all a matter of mileages varying.

I had awful experiences with Rogers. I would spork out my ovaries before returning to them. Bell on the other hand has been outstanding. Any issues I ever had were quickly resolved and I always had excellent customer care.

So for every person I hear say how awful Bell is and how awesome Rogers is, I say, "mileages vary".

And some people just can't be pleased. I work in telecom, I know what it's like to do everything the customer wants and you still get *****ed at because it's not enough.

Posted by: Rolodex

My wife loves her Fusic. She's had no problems, amazing battery life, and no dropped calls.

Lg Chocolate on the other hand.... biggest POS Iv'e ever seen.

Posted by: reeneebob

I had the Bell World manager tell me the only reason the Chocolate is on the wall is that it's contractually obligated to be there. They tell people it's out of stock to get out of selling it to them, it's so bad.

Posted by: OCZ

Bell has a contract with LG.....there is still tons of stock of the LG Choc...but I also advise everyone not to buy one because:

1) Its a POS

2) I dont want them coming back to me in 1 week *****ing about it!

and if ppl insist I would be like, buy one but with the extnd warranty as it is useless without one!

so far I have 14 LG Choc waiting for parts! lol......almost 1 month old!!!!! and i get yelled at because it is taking that long and I would be like instead of u yelling at me.....smack yourself and yell at LG.....lol

Posted by: sheerin

what exactly is wrong with the chocolate? Just curious

We haven't had a chocolate in stock since September 2007 and we haven't had one out of display since October 2007.

Must be nice not to have to worry about store appearance checklists or push inventory.

You obviously don't work corporate because they don't have an option.

We do have an inventory checklist and when that checklist is coming my boss simply orders in 1 of each of the things we don't keep in stock on a regular basis.

I work for a corp store and we get LG Choc pushed and honestly it is the last phone to be put away...we just simply ignore it to the last.....

Let me get you about 5 of my friends numbers, who all hate their LG phones.

I had an a640 and never had a dropped call. POS phone but I have never dropped a call in 5 plus years of Bell Mobility. Rogers on the other hand...it was great when I lived downtown and couldn't use my phone at all without being picked up by US towers, bought a new Rogers phone whose battery fell off while talking (an old Nokia) and Rogers fixed it under warranty - by putting a business card in it. I paid money for that POS phone you better replace it especially when they said it was a known issue. Bell has always gone above and beyond.....unlike Rogers and their incompetence.

Sorry you went to Rogers. Sorry you left Bell becuase you got a cheapo phone. And sorry you chose a LG.

EDIT

Imagine how I feel. I went from a640 to Krzr to Blackberry Pearl to Curve in the space of 3 months. Talk about an upgrade in quality, right?

Posted by: RR88

I don't know how everyone has these issues with Rogers. I've had nothing but a GREAT experience. Never over charged. I've had problems with my Touch but when replacing it.. Rogers would send me a new Touch in the mail. 2 or 3 days.. and when I got the new Touch I only then had to send back my faulty one. This has happened about 4 times now though.. so i'm switching phones but Rogers has been very helpful.

Posted by: reeneebob

Like I said, it's mileages varying...

People at work haaaaaaaaate Bell and love Rogers and had bad experiences with Bell.

Others (like myself) have never had an issue and I have been a Bell customer for home phone since I was 19 (so 14 years now) and internet/cell for about 7 years, expressvu for 2 years.

Rogers? I went back with them to their very first PayGo phone, the one that liked to catch on fire and have the battery explode? And I never had good luck with them ever.

Posted by: Sammy740

Every company sucks.

I was in no way blaming Rogers...I was pointing out how long ago I had went with them lol.

every company has its faults. I've always had bad experiences with Rogers customer service and sometimes with Bell Mobility. So far, Telus has been alright.

my latest frustration is with BM - giving me run-around with a plan that I signed up for and because they gave me the wrong info, I signed up for the wrong one!! needless to say, we all love the products, hate the service but have to suck it up because we're at the whim of these giants.
