Hey guys,

How long should the battery last approx after a full charge with
a. Active data connection (email being retrieved)
b. Data connection turned OFF

For me, it's not even lasting a day and its a brand new phone

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I hope someone answers this question because I to am not happy with the life of the battery on my 8gb phone.

Wow, I am. (Well, I was before I sold my 8GB model.)

It's much better than some of the other phones I've had. I am however a little concerned about the 3G model's battery life.

Is it jailbroken? If so, is it running openssh? If so, download in the installer "services" and turn it off. My iphone is 8gb and lasts a full day and I use it a lot. Also, when not using wifi, turn it off and reduce your brightness if needed.

I get 3-4 days off the phone, that's with a fair amount of browsing and texting as well. I leave it on 24/7

I noticed if I use the iPod a lot (3-5 hrs worth of listening), + web browsing, and some phone calls I would get a day at most.
If I dont listen to the iPod, some browsing, and some phone calls, I can get a good 2-3 days.

i get about 12 solid hours at least.. but i charge every night. i might give it a try and see how long it last without charging.

but its still better than my sidekick3.

How are you charging it from the pc or wall outlet ? I find that if I charge it from the wall outlet it get longer charge then from the pc .
Turn off wifi when not in use you could also try restoring it I had a friend that downloaded a lot of apps and his battery wasnt lasting long did a restore and fixed it .

Maybe the wifi being on and installer doing its thing caused the battery to drain fast. I use to drain mine in about 1 day. Now I use it normally and it last about 2-3 days on 1 charge. I don't know if conditioning the battery is what helped or not, but I still do it to every phone I get.

I find that when you are not using WiFi it's best to turn it off because it will continue to ping for a signal thus draining your battery.

Also you mentioned that your iphone is jailbroken and unlocked. Verify that SSH app is turned off (if I remember correctly) because that also will cause a drain on the battery.

I can get a full days use on my unlocked / jailbroke 1.1.4 fw 8gb iphone making calls, listening to podcasts, surfing the web via wifi and just keeping an eye on what is on or off.
