I'm looking for a portable player that is capable of playing FLAC since that's how I keep my archive-no lossy mp3 here

Any suggestions? All I find on the net are the chinese made players, can I trust them with audio quality?

Yeah, you should stay away from the chinese brand since they will break down easily. iRiver E100 natively support FLAC.

Check out the E100 review!

If you get a rockbox supported player, that's an option as well. I use my 1G ipod nano with rockbox (although not with FLAC since it only has 4 GB of storage).

That's what I did but now I can't figure out how (or where) to put the FLAC files, have any idea?

btw, I have 4gb as well, I think it's enough, should take around 10 albums roughly which more than what I need on the road

hmmm, that looks like a winner. I wonder if the external memory would become integrated if I could install rockbox on this baby

16gb and 32gb SDHCs would make this a great player

consider Cowon iaudio7
it supports ogg vorbis and FLAC
just wish it supports wireless headphones though

I put my music files under Files/Music. I just navigate there with the player and play the files (I have them organized in different folders by artist then album). I don't imagine FLAC files are any different. You could also use the database, although I've never tried it since I have my music sorted already.

Also, according to dapreview.net, the Samsung S5 firmware has been updated to include FLAC support, so that's another option you could consider.

The card can't become integrated, this is the down side.

The iRiver Lplayer will be another players supporting FLAC. I heard that it will be better than the E100.
