Testing smartphones in stores

Hey everyone,
When testing/comparing phones in the stores, what different tests do you do? Things like timing how long it takes to start up, how long it takes to start the text menu? I'm going to be testing the different smartphones, but since this will be my first smartphone, I don't know what tests to put them through.

i personally check for volume on the phone? if its not loud im not buying it. next i check the internet browser if it doesnt load a heavy page loaded with graphics and links wth out crashing im not buying it. i check to see how the buttons feel texting someone. then i check the screen is it bright and readable
