I found this great deal, guy is selling me a PEARL and the TeleNAV bluetooth GPS receiver.. but my question is do i need a service do use that GPS receiver or can i just pair it and then use it on blackberry maps?

GPS will only give you your position. How you use that position (either with BlackBerry maps or whatever) you will get charged data. For example, to display your position on a map will require data to be transmitted, etc. Hope this clears things up!

Thanks, yah i figured that much. i alrdy have a data plan.. so im not worried about that, i just wanted to know if the receiver would actually work with the program and pin point my location..

Anyone use that specific receiver and if so what are your thoughts on it?

I would recommend to use Google Maps Mobile. It's good, and it is free.

google maps uses soo much data its unreal. I like blackberry maps tho to be honest, plus in the OS update their going to have points of interest so it should make it a lot better!

blackberry maps and google maps are both free software, however they still use data which is not free.

hybrid solution would be to download TrekBuddy and pre-laod all Googlemap data (for a given region) on your BB

I tried it last week and it works absolutely great...

Only thing you won't have is route planning ...

It would be cool if someone would address the actual question.

If it's a BT GPS receiver it should work with any GPS app. Telenav doesn't actually make the receivers -- they just resell whatever model it is that they offer.

well ill answer my own question.. ive it now for 5-6 days. and YES it does work with bb maps. all you need is the data plan.

Also to be honest with you the receiver is amazing!! it works great with bb maps, i was really suprised how well a bluetooth receiver and cell phone would serve as a gps.

but i also heard of nav4all and amazeGPS which are both free to use and offer voice directions as well..

overall im very happy with this receiver for the price i got this for it was a steal, just cant wait for the new OS to come out so that bb maps gets points of interest.
