I've done some searching and couldn't find a clear answer to my problem...

I dropped my phone at work today, and now the touch screen is all wacked out. It is working, but not right, and it does not allow me to realign it - it just keeps running through the realignment cycle. If I am on the today screen and touch the right side of the screen it will hit items on the left side of the screen, and if i hit the left side, nothing happens... I was wondering if this is the digitizer, like if I replace the touchscreen / digitizer would this fix the problem, or could of a connection come lose? Any insight on this would be very much appreciated

When was the last time you did a full backup? Reason why I'm asking is that you may have to do a hard reset - which will wipe out ALL of your data and any programs you've added. To do a hard reset, insert the stylus into the reset hole and press the power switch at the same time. Hold both steady for 1-2 seconds. The hard reset brings the phone back to an out-of-the-box state.

Yes I know whta a hard reset is - but the thing I am scared of is if I try a hard reset and it is my digitizer, then I will not be able to get past the alignment screen which will completely screw me. Is there anyway to find out if it is the digitzer or if it is a software problem?

Well...The quick 'n' easy solution according to many CSRs I've talked to all agree to take out the battery and reinsert it after 30-45 seconds - which you have probably already done. That should reset some of the software glitches.

Any visible damage from the drop? Do you have insurance? If you have insurance and there's no visible damage, I'd file a claim.

Or you could take it to a tech and see if he/she might be able to run a diagnostic. Tell them you still have info that cannot be destroyed on it through a hard reset.

The software won't become corrupt by physically dropping the phone.

I would take a look at the edges where the front bezel meets the digitizer (screen). There may be some dirt or something under there that is constantly pushing on the screen which confuses the program. Also if you have a screen protector on the unit, it may have shifted in the fall and gotten underneath the bezel and is doing the same thing.

Good Luck,

Jim
