How to enable mp3 ringtones on 5310

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have Nokia 5310. When I transfer mp3 music from pc to phone it doesn't let me use it as a ringtone. Can this be done?

You can use mp3's as long as they're less than 600 kb.

I need to find software that lets me use it as ringtone

What do you mean? For my text message ringtone I made it one of my .mp3s from my music player, it works fine, and plays the whole song.

Go to Settings, then Tones and change your ringtones by going to Open Gallery, then choosing the Memory Card, then Music..

Unless there's something I'm not getting.

when i try to put a mp3 file as my ringtone, and its less than 600kb, it always says "cannot be set as ringtone", all other MP3's are there, but greyed out. this leads me to believe that there is a DRM issue, any thoughts?

I can set full MP3 fine on unbranded Nokia 5310 software. T-Mobile also let me set MP3 tones. Only people im seeing problem from is people with Rogers that leave the Rogers software on there. Debrand it and it should solve the problem perhaps.

slightly offtopic, but how would i go about un-branding it? I assume that it would totally void the warranty, is that correct? pointers to the correct thread to gather the information would be much appreciated

I'm on Rogers and have the N95-8G and have the same problem. Rogers software limits the ringtone size. They didn't put a limit on message alert tones, probably cause not too many people want to use something as long as an mp3 as their message tone. My anly concern is , what are the negatives to debranding?

software debranding using NSU won't void warranty. i know that for fact.

For all the ppl that use a 5310 all that is needed to use unprotected mp3 ringtones is 2 things. Bluetooth on ur comp and knowledge of file renameing. First dl the mp3 or make ur own. Second change the file extention to .awb. Then bluetooth to your phone. It will not work if you save to mem card. I did it with mine for a year with no probs. No debranding no special software.

Thats why i don't buy S40 phones. They have so many limitations.

Well I just picked up a 5800. And it is messed up a little with its ringtones. I transfered all my .mp3 and .awb and it doesn't support .awb but all the .mp3 files that didn't work on the 5310 now work on the 5800. BUT, there is always a but. The .mp3 tones only work for contacts and ONLY if you assign it from the media folder. It wont let you assign it from the contacts menu. Also it will not let you assign a tone for your general tone in either way. The only way it will let you is if you convert to .wma format like the others have posted earlier. Thanks for the confident reply on the S40 I feel the same way.
