Headphone advice.....no earbuds though

I am looking for fairly inexpensive NON ear bud headphones for my iPod. I will be using these solely for bike riding, which I try to do at least 5 times a week. I cannot use the iPod headphones or ear buds because I just cannot take the noise of the wind in my ear. It really starts to hurt my ears after 10 minutes of riding. I need something that will pretty much cover the opening of the ear canal. I cannot use the huge DJ style headphones either, as they need to fit me with a biking helmet on.

Oh, and I don't want to spend a lot of money either. Any advice or suggestions?

well, the Shure 110's are earbuds, but they are VERY good at noise isolation, and basically act like earplugs with a noise port coming down the middle. you might like them. I will try them while biking soon and report!

bigd, I appreciate it, but those are just way too expensive for what I need.

Ok, i wasn't sure what you meant by inexpensive!

Well, I got $15 in Best Buy rewards, so I bought these.

So far, not too bad. I think I need to change the ear loops and the ear pieces to bigger ones. I am still getting wind noise while on my bike, but it is nowhere near as bad as the OEM iPod headphones. So with $15 off, I think $25 is a pretty cheap price to pay.

The ~$50 Sony's generally aren't bad. I don't think I'll ever give up my Shure E4g's though. <33

Sennheiser PX100 headphones provide the best bang for the buck, IMHO. I've been using these with my iPhone and luv them!

Koss KSC75 Portable Stereophone Headphones

iGrado's

I haven't used/listened to either of these, but I've seen them well recommended. You might want to do a search over at Head-fi (http://www.head-fi.org/) for more info/suggestions.

iGrado is good, for a little bit of more money SR60 is a legend

Of course, either of these is completely unsuitable for the original poster but if we are talking about good cans in general these are good for the money..

I have the SR60s. Cord is way too thick and long and doesn't have a 3.5mm jack. Great sound 'though.

For iPOD use, I use the Sennheiser PX100s for indoors and Bose QC3s for outdoors. I use the Grados occasionally for use on my Stereo system and TV.

Another vote on the PX100, best value! It comes with a very nice carry case.

short-lived (not it's life, just gone from store too fast)
AKG K24P
the very best lightweight "traditional style" headphones for the price
combine with Koss PortaPro earpads=perfect
give a try

or Sennheiser PXC100 if you prefer behind the neck form

Well, those Sony headphones that I bought, they are comfortable, but the music quality sucks. No bass whatsoever, especially not compared to the stock iPod headphones. I think that I may have to spend a little get something decent.

x2. My buddy has the Shure 110's on his 3rd gen iPod and that thing sounds wayyy better than my audio in my car.

Although I wouldnt wear a noise isolation earbud while riding a bike. That's a darwin award nomination for me.

check out skullcandy or sennheiser

Another vote for the px100's

My Shure SE530's broke (cabling...) a while back and I bought the PX100's while I was down in Lima for like 199 soles (about 80 bucks). They're great for when you need great sound and no isolation.

The SE530's are fixed but I keep both around for different situations

Hi everyone-

I was very recently looking for headphones that were cheap, and I hated earbuds as well...boy was I lucky to come across this thread! You guys (and the reviewers on amazon) have convinced me to get the px100's, i just put in an order on amazon for 38.99 USD.

I did the right thing...right? For $40...it seems worth it. But if anyone has any last minute suggestions to different ones, please say! I still have a little time to cancel before the order ships.

Thanks again!
