That's something I don't get either. The Apple site clearly states the new model having a HSDPA antenna.

I think that phrase just fit the marketing scheme best. 2x and 1/2. Just flows well.

X2

I am a marketing manager and thats what I would have said

I think it refers to speed tests of the browser and email attachments where a webpage that took like 40 seconds on EDGE would be under 20 seconds on 3g.

I can't speak for iPhone users, but I don't see an appreciable difference in speed on webpages or apps on my HTC. Be it EDGE, WiFi, or 3G.

I live in a non-3G area, and I don't bother with WiFi at home.

change the DNS setting... example using the opendns.com setting makes a huge diffrence. not really a speed diffrence..it simple gets there and starts faster.. elimanates the 'looking...' before the site starts to load thats where the bottle neck is.... ATTs dns servers are simply overwhelmed...

I'm using server-assigned addresses. If you could tell me how to change it, I would be appreciative.

Did you not see how close 3G performance was to wifi? And did you not bother to look at apple's iphone 3g page? (Clearly states HSDPA)

Were they running live speeds tests at the keynote, or were they just recorded? If you notice the iphone screen says 9:41am on all three tests displayed. They did not even get into the iphone stuff until AFTER 10:45 California time. Just curious.

It was probably 3 iphones prerecorded side by side for the presentation, assuming the presentation was video

Posted by: aaadock

ok just read it. they do state hsdpa over the umts network..

just the ' twice the speed ' threw me off...

as an example i tether evey day..and if 3g was only twice as fast.. id be ticked..

oh and i see 30 bucks for the data hell prepaid can tether 3g datacards for 19.99.. iphone folks are getting screwed..!
