so i tried to add more music to my iphone today, and alas, all of my music was erased. i restarted the phone a few times, and then restored. now my phone wont sync with my laptop, but it will with the family pc.

any ideas as to what i should do?

Write Apple about how sweet their idea of "sync" is.

No really, it's best if you sync with only one PC. The whole thing makes very little sense to me as well. And trying to explain the whole idea of how Apple does this to my girlfriend about broke my nerve. Then trying to sync on another machine and authorizing certain music etc.... is just cumbersome. Just stick to one PC until out figure it out.

Why it won't sync to your laptop is beyond me. Apple's ITunes is funky. And you have to reboot your entire computer sometimes, to get it to work.

If you want to add music, you have to have the latest Itunes. There is an option to allow you to just add single tracks without erasing everything else. Otherwise, you have to completely resync your entire music library, if not, it'll only sync what you tell it to.

well, it seems that itunes decided to turn off each and every one of the "sync" functions, and i had to manually recheck each one to get them to resync. too bad i lost all of my contacts, texts, and apps...

F*CK ME....but thanks

and i also cant get my gmail account working again

correct me if im wrong.
but if you put all your contacts, songs, videos, etc on your iphone from computer A and then you sync your iphone with computer B to ADD more songs or vids or anything then what will happen is that your iphone will completely erase everything your phone had from computer A and replace it with what computer B has.

Im not 100% certain on this but i think this is the way it works, so you cant "add" from a 2nd computer you can only replace....

(again if im wrong someone please correct me)

I sync to 2 computers - no problem. You have to go to the summary pane and make sure whatever you want to sync from computer A are the only things checked off, then on computer B do the same. Like, if on computer A you only want to sync contacts and calendars, be sure those are the only things checked. Then on computer B make sure those boxes are NOT checked. Not sure if this is what's happening, but might be.

From what I have seen, You have to "Authorize" the syncing of the music and stuff from the computer B. And I believe that you are limited as to how many times or computers you do this to.

IMO, it's just dumb. Alot of people have many PC's that they deal with from day to day. Or even multiple media set top boxes in their homes. A true drag and drop solution would be sooo much easier/better IMO. I know it's probably more of a piracy prevention thing, but it's so confusing and painful, if you buy an album on PC B and want to add it to your Iphone library. I have over 10 gigs of music on my PC-A, But I have purchased music from Itunes on PC B. Not only is it a pain to add the newly PC-B music to my Iphone, but what if I want to download it to PC-A. I bought it, I should be able to, IMO. Or at least stick the stuff on a thumb drive and carry it over to a new machine all I want. As in not be limited to 5 times or whatever the ITunes message tells me when I do....

Just overly confusing to me. I bought a RCA Lyra a couple years back. I buy .mp3 music from anywhere, and can just drag and drop it onto the Lyra. So simple it's not even funny.

I do have to say that it gets a tad bit easier as you learn what they are trying to do. But it still doesn't justify it's complexity.

no, ive never synced from the 2nd computer before today, the first computer erased my songs.

i got my gmail to work, and now my fingers are tired from re-entering my contacts....its time for me to either reJB with ziphone or try iliberty

but apparently drag and drop to apple is the DEVIL.
is there a single apple device that is drag and drop capable out of the box? NO.

and people wonder why piracy runs rampant, there is NO BS to deal with, you download an album in about 3 minutes, you drag it all to your cheap chinese MP3 player (chinese mp3 players that are cheaper and higher quality than ipods) that doesnt give a damn about DRM or licences, or originating computer mac addresses.

You can drag and drop. Just check off "Manually manage music and videos". I wish there was a sync for syncing everything since the last time I did it. Maybe the poster is having a problem because of the jailbreak.

Again with the FUD, klown?

Lookeee here -- here's video of dragging songs from a Windows Explorer window, directly into an iPod. Not into an iTunes playlist. Directly onto the iPod.

And an Apple.com support article, on how to drag and drop content directly onto your iPod.

To manually add music, audiobooks, movies or TV shows to your iPod, choose one of these categories under LIBRARY in the Source list. Select and drag items you want (to choose multiple items, Command-click items on a Mac or Control-click items in Windows), then drag them onto your iPod icon in the Source list.

Really man, honestly -- your blind rage against All Things Apple is driving your credibility into the toilet. Why do you spend so much time here anyway? At least with our S60 friends like JonyBruha and TheTruth - they had the iPhone before, and are keeping an eye on things in the thought that they may buy it again. But you've admitted you have never owned one, and it's quite clear that you never ever have any intention of doing so. So what's the point with so much time here?

I find it easier if you play by apples rules. A lot less headache unless you know what you are doing.

I keep all my music/contacts/movies etc. on an external drive & I made sure both my laptop & my desktop show it as the same drive letter (M). So whenever I sync my iPhone I just hook the external drive up to whichever computer I am using & all my content stays the same.

That still requires iTunes, which is the main point of peoples complaints.
It also doesn't make syncing with 2+ machines any easier.

Apple loves to reinvent the wheel. Sadly, people buy their idiotic crap.
As a long time Apple/Mac user, I've always lived Mac hardware and their base systems. However, their "interactive" & "idiot proof" software has always been something users have complained about.

Ah, yes - that would be something different then ... "direct filesystem access". Not "drag and drop". I agree, it would be nice. But I don't see Apple as being evil for not including it.
