I have been reading stuff for two days now but I have not seen a2dp listed anywhere am I missing it or is the iphone 3g coming out without it

I haven't seen A2DP mentioned either. I assume this means no, apples doesn't want to lose the free marketing from the white ear phones.

been looking just as much as you, havent seen a word about it.

I love the fact that the phone has 3g and gps is a nice addon but I was really hoping for a2dp I hate wired headphones

According to Gizmodo, I believe, A2DP is a no go with the current software.

Why would they? Until Ipods have A2DP then no Iphone shall have it.

by your logic a host of new features going to the 3g iphone should not be released until its applied to the ipod line. so far i havent seen release notes for a gps enabled ipod.

for the music phone, stereo bluetooth seems mandatory.

Yes it is. Just because of that, IMO, the iPhone is inferior to MOST Nokia/SE phones regarding audio functionalities.

I'm still crossing my fingers that A2DP will be in the new software. The leaks/rumours said that there was mention of A2DP in iPhone 2.0 beta. :/

It's lame but it's only version 2.0 + EDR, full specs are one phonescoop.

I'd rather have wired light weight headphones than something bulkier with batteries that need replacing or recharging.

How good are the stereo bluetooth headphones these days? Have they caught up to the Sennheiser or Grado wired headphones? If not, I could care less about a2dp.

From what I've been reading, wired is far superior.

I agree that it probably should have been added -- and we don't know for sure that it hasn't -- but even if A2DP were an option there's no way I'm giving up my Shure E3c headphones for a Bluetooth set.

Shure's are GREAT! Not to mention pricey. I've had some pricey ear-buds myself, but based on my experience most of the cords wear out after a while cuz I work out with them. The sweat and grime tends to thin and wear out the rubber-based cords, exposing the wire underneath.

But when I switched over to A2DP wireless, the feeling of being un-tethered is priceless! Granted, the sound quality is no comparison to my Shure's, but a little tweaking with my phone's equalizer and bass makes up for it (about 95% there). I'm currently using Anycom's BSH-100 A2DP headset. They're miniature "cans" with a rechargeable & replaceable battery that I've tested to last for about 9.5 hours. I can even take calls with it with the removeable mic!
Sound quality and volume level is amazing for a wireless headset and the sound starts cutting off about 35 feet from my phone. You can even fast forward or rewind.

I personally do not see the point of not having a full suite of bluetooth profiles. I'd like to see FTP/OBEX/OPP on the iPhone - those are really handy at times. Bluetooth has such amazing potential, but the hardware developers insist on holding it back and crippling it. I don't get it.

Wow, I guess I haven't quite put them through their paces yet because I haven't had any problems like that. But you're right, they're awesome and while pricey I did manage to get them for about $150 about a year and a half ago.

And I agree, Huey -- I'd like to see OBEX but otherwise I couldn't care less about the other BT profiles. However, I'm hoping that some enterprising hacker will expose the filesystem as they did with v1 and then you'll be able to transfer files via USB...which is significantly faster than OBEX anyway. I use OBEX with my current phone on occasion for small things, but it's a real drag to try and transfer anything significant.
