IPhone 3G vs NOKIA N95

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hi,

I'm a newbie and glad to be on board with all of you !

I'm planning to buy a cell in the next few months, and I'm debating between the NOKIA N95 and the New IPhone 3G. I want good Audio (mp3)/Video and GOOD bluetooth technology!

Can someone Help me with my choice?

Thanks in advance,

Marc.

iphone 3g all the way , it has the best web browser , but if you like to take pictures go with the N , but for looks and reliability ill go with the iphone its sooo refind , nokia looks like a big brick

Well if bluetooth is a priority I'd say n95 since iPhone doesn' thave a2dp. N95 has a better camera too. Web browsing goes to the iPhone but ONLY because its touchscreen and a larger display, not due to the browser

n95 for your needs. Or Wait got the touchscreen nokia device.

Marc:

I use both the current iPhone AND the Nokia N95 8GB (aka the N95-4 in the US).

Audio: iPhone is substantially better.

Video: I STILL haven't used video on the N95; however, the N95-4 does support full VGA (640x480 at 30 frames per second)

Little is known about the EXTENT of Bluetooth support in the iPhone 3G (other than support for headset profiles). But the N95-4 supports ALMOST ALL BT profiles, includng A2DP (stereo BT) which the current iPhone does not.

Again we don't know if Apple has added more BT profile support in the new iPhone.

I will say this: the N95-4 costs about $650, but that's unlocked. Why does that matter?

If you went into AT&T and signed up for a plan that included unlimited Mediamax (handset Internet), it costs only $15 a month. And you STILL GET 3G data speeds.

FYI I do plan on getting the iPhone 3G!

Really depends on where you ask the question...

This is the Apple section, go to smartphones s60 section and you'll get a different opinion.

There is bias on both sections.

Well you probably will get a better cross section of responses here. The Apple HoFo is the N-95-lite forum

What exactly do you need in the way of BT? If you need a2dp the iPhone might not be what you need. As to MP3 playing if you listen to A LOT of music all day long the iPhone would be tough to beat as the 3g model is rated at 24hours of play. An N-95 will probably not give you near the battery life the iPhone will while playing music all day.

Well, looking for STEREO HEADSET bluetooth support.

Audio:

iPhone > N95(thru 3.5mm)
N95 > iPhone(thru speakers)

Video:

Playing
iPhone>N95(Due to 3.5" screen on iPhone)
Recording
N95>>>>>>>iPhone(No recording in iPhone)

Bluetooth:

N95>>>>>iPhone
(N95 got A2DP vs none in iPhone and N95 got lot more BT profiles)

Nokia N95.

N95 will best suit YOU. If i could afford to spend the money on it, it would already have been mine. (in black)

Any details on the phone ?

Posted by: CingularWRX

its called the nokia tube I think. CHeck out the s60 forum

Posted by: JerryNY

I realize the Nokia fans are excited for good reason about the Tube or whatever it is called but recommending a product so far from the market with so much up in the air is stretching it a bit isn't it? You might as well recommend the the 3rd version of the iPhone due to come out next year

Well tell you the truth.. Its no better than the N95..

Its not a flagship device.. Just a reason to shut the S60 fans that wants touch.

Ask me? Do I want touch? HELL NO!!

go for iphone atleast it is better then huge brick.

Posted by: Konceptz

If you're into media creation, then go N95.

If you're into media consumption, get the iphone.

That's my rule of thumb

Posted by: bridgeman

is att ever going to carry any Nokia's like the n95-4?

Probably never subsidized. But their network is 99% compatible.

1% is the video calling over 3G using the 2nd front facing camera. But there are programs in the works for that.

Well don't they have a policy of no front cameras in place? If so Nokia would have to make a front-camera-less model of the N95.

We can care less about what the front camera can do..

We don't complain about that.. US 3G good is enough for us..

Why the n95? Youu should look at the E71. I don't think the N95 is all that. I like Symbian OS, but the N95 It is sluggish and very hard to navigate vs a qwerty keyboard nokia or qwerty iPhone.

I have video recording on my jailbroken iPhone, BTQ.

What re you going to use bluetooth for?

Several things.......wireless sync, sending pictures to people that are around, sending files to/from the computer (pictures/ringtones), wireless file browsing..........there are several possibilities

As much as I love my iPhone like crazy! I think the n95 still is better because it's specs... yeah touch screen is nice but 5megapixel camera and video recording of 640x480 30fps! I think the only thing really great about iPhone is the browser and mp3 player and how it's compatible with a lot of iPod accessories... oh and n95 also has MMS... these are like all duh features they should've added on the first release of the iPhone i just don't get why they couldn't just add these features on... i don't want to pay for a 3rd party application to be able to do what should be simple things a regular phone can do... whatever... I'm a sucker and will still buy the damn 3g iPhone! AHH I HATE YOU STEVE JOBS!

Sluggish? N95 is not sluggish at all with new firmware.

I am not sure why the pre-occupation with qwerty. qwerty is an overkill unless you are using the phone to type a book. For short messages (which majority of people do) T9 is much better as you can type one out simply using one hand without fuss.

I think it is a joke to bring out video recording in your jail-broken Iphone side-by-side with N95 like they are on the same plane.

I had a N95 nam and quickly switched back to the iPhone. The build quality on the n95 feels very VERY cheap. The call quality was bad in my experiences as well. Camera was great as well as streaming and dowloading, though I didnt care for browsing on it. In quickly switched back to the iPhone. Better web surfing, bigger screen. Its all in what u wanna do with ur device. 3G iPhone isnt all I hoped for from what I'm hearing, but it will fit by needs plus give me that feel I love.

I had the iphone then sold it for the n95-3 when I heard the 3G version was coming out soon. I love this phone!! I love being able to take great picture on the fly, video recording is a blast at a party, and the apps out there are truly amazing, you can pretty much customize your phone to you.

On the other hand, I do miss the iphone, so slick and beautiful. The jail broken apps I tired out were pretty cool, I'll probably get the 3G version when it is release and hopefully be able to jail break it and Unlock it....I don't want the iphone plan!!!

Build quality with N95 is my main problem or more like the hit and miss thing Nokia got with it. It's pitty that they cant move that E-series build quality to N-series I like my phones heavy and metallic!
About the coming S60 TS devices i'm 95% sure that the TS itself wont be as good as iphones so it need to stand up with other things like features, screen and price that will probally be really competitive considering that the first TS phone will be just 5xxx series phone.
