Pros & Cons for the extended battery on the Touch

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I just received the extended battery that Verizon sells for their XV6900 version of the Touch. HTC has one that comes with a black back case for use on the Sprint CDMA model also. Here is a partial list of the pros and cons for using it. Please feel free to add to the list.

PROS
Much improved air time. You don't have to worry about running out of power with heavy usage before the end of the day.
Much better grip in my hand when talking on the phone. It really fits perfectly into the palm of my hand. With the thinner standard battery I was afraid that if someone bumped into me while holding the phone to my ear that I would drop it.
Much easier to type because the bulge in the back also improves my grip while typing with two thumbs.
Protects the camera lens which is now recessed.

CONS
It is heavier.
Does not fit into the pouch that comes with the phone and most of the leather cases being sold. (By the way, if you can recommend a leather clip on case that this extended battery will fit into I would appreciate the information).

You can take the width and length of your phone and compare it to other; older, phones. Then go to any number of cell phone accessory web sites and order. Or, If you live in Houston you can go to the Trader's Village; an open-air Flea-market, and go to the cellphone case guy. Let him see your phone and he'll have a case the fits in 5 sec. for $5.00.

I walked into a Verizon store yesterday, tried a few different cases for the phone and picked up the black leather case for the Blackberry Curve that they sell and it fit the XV6900 with the extended battery perfectly. It also has a swivel belt clip which I like on a case.

I would still like to see replies from others regarding my pros & cons list.

I ordered the Seidio 2000mah battery the first day I ran out of charge and needed my phone. I haven't been happier. I actually like the added bulk due to my bigger hands. I was a little worried when I ordered that the Body glove "leather" case would not fit. It was tight getting in initially but I even like the fit better now with the extended battery. It now really does fit like a glove. It also has a removable clip that give me the choice whether to clip it on or carry it in my pocket. I highly recommend it.

I have the 1200mah Seidio battery I purchased off eBay for ~$50 or so. Slightly bigger than OEM.

IMHO, it was a complete waste of money with no noticeable difference whatsoever. I wish I would have listed to the reviews for the bigger batteries with the extended door.

I have the Seidio 2200mah battery for mine with extended back. The extra thinkness is handy for me, and the added bulk/weight doesn't bother me at all. I don't even notice it now. Definitely notice a huge difference in the length it lasts.

Only complaint is the back is a different colour than my touch, but it doesn't matter enough for me to care.

What color is your Touch model?

for how long an ext battery lasts, all other cons are outweighed

yeah sure its heavier, so? can you not lift it? BTW just use a bluetooth headset and leave it in your pocket, worse comes to worse, use MS VC or CVC so you dont have to take it out.

bulky? yeah, but so is any pda phone, this still fits in my pocket though, just like every other phone and pda out there. i dont wear skin tight pants.

so what do you get out of it? for my tytn + 3000mAH battery i get 31.25 days standby time (3000mAH / 4mA standby discharge = 750hrs)

does it really last that long? yes, after i conditioned the battery i did the following

WIFI set to MAX power
bluetooth visible + Activesync
3G enabled GSM full strength
Coreplayer on a loop (playing xvid, not some low compression vid)

the phone lasted 8.5ish hours before giving a critical alarm.

now if i dont abuse the crap out of this phone under normal usage i get 2.5 weeks, this is making calls, sending TONS of txt, recv email, bluetoothing files, etc.

in your case there is a 2500mAH battery avalible, for the touch its not actaully that bulky comapred to others.

I have the blue-ish Touch. The new back that came with the battery is black.

I have the Alltel so it's grey. That's the only reason why I haven't bought one yet. I'm still debating...

A black & blue combination wouldn't look so bad.
