Siemons C56 or Nokia 6590?

Hey, I need some advice from you guys:

I will be getting a new cell phone with AT&T wireless in the next few day and I'm having trouble deciding between the two of these phones.

What would you guys recommend? How would you rate the C56?

I'm looking for a phone that is small, gets good reception, and is easy to navigate the OS.

Also, is this phone slow to navigate the menus?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I would go with the C56...

It's a great fone! It has a lot of good features, great RF, Menu is simple to navigate through... it's very user friendly. The fone itself is stable there are no bugs like some other mobiles on the market now.

Thanks for the response, that is really helpfull.

Just wondering though... is the C56 slow to navigate through the menus?

THanks for ur help again!

Not at all. It's real quick. Great phone.

The 6590 is a solid phone. It gets extremely good RF, and of course Nokia's menus are very easy to use.... I've never used a C56, but a couple of my friends have it, and they like it so far. They've only had it for a week or so, and no problems yet.

But I loved the 6590......

I've been using a C56 for the past 2 weeks and I have to say it has the best reception of any phone I've tried so far (S46, 6360, 3360, (3 x) 6160, 8265, and a few others I can't recall). People I'm calling are astounded by the clarity of this little phone on their end too.

Phone is the smallest I've had, even smaller than my wife's M46. It actually gets lost in a shirt pocket.

Speaker phone is a nice feature, very clear, but you have to turn the volume up each time you activate it (2 key strokes), which is a little awkward.

Down side is that the battery seems to run about 3 days maximum with average use.

Menus are a little different from what you would expect from Nokia (if you are like me and had all Nokia phones previously and are acustomed to Nokia menu systems), and stuff isn't in the same places. Once you read the manual and find out where stuff is, it becomes quite intuitive.

Have never noticed a menu "delay" in any of our three Siemens (C56, S46, M46) phones when navigating.

The C56 doesn't heat up after talking 10-15 minutes or so like I've seen with other phones.

Contrary to what has been claimed elsewhere on the Internet, the alarm will indeed turn on and alert when the phone is off.

All in all, I think this is one heck of a great phone. FWIW, it has my recommendation.

Hope this helps.

Well, it sure helps me in solidifying my decision to buy a C56. I just finished saying in the AT&T forum that I'm on my way to the AT&T store to exchange my SE T306 for the Siemens.

Now I have warm fuzzies

We were all lurkers at point or another... I was an avid reader in many forums here for a good year before I finally decided why the heck not just join and so I registered.

Everything good said about the C56 is true.

The drawbacks about this phone are not serious but worth looking to as well.

First, the polyphonic ringtone is barely audible, even on maximum volume. When my phone rings in the next room, rest assured that I probably missed it. Also, when you crank up the volume, the c56 treats you like a child by putting up a warning message that you shouldn't put your ears close to speaker when it is ringing. You also get the same message when you turn on your phone.

Second, it's a pain to hold for even a decent stretch of a conversation. You can't grip it because then you lose the signal (it says right there on manual). So you have to hold it in this delicate manner that cramps your fingers and forces you to switch hands every five minutes or so.

And it picks up wind...it just does. Like someone blowing into the mic.

And I'm not impressed with the reception I'm getting with this one. It's just regular quality, definitely not something you trade a landline phone over.

I'll give it a B+

i do agree with the first point. i guess siemens should take out the "max volume" warning in the new firmware. it's kinda irritating.
btw, wat firmware are u using? the ringtones are pretty loud in fw18, a marked improvement over the previous firmwares. u can check your firmware by pressing *#06#

everything else about this phone is good. which other non-colour has java+polyphony+gprs+flashy light effects all in one at such a low price???

Posted by: Bruinesian

says 18 there allright. But I've heard in the other siemens forums that fw 19 is out but the official website doesn't have it up. one of the supposed improvements in better sound quality and faster java app load. well, i may not stay for C56 that long. I got my eye on a Nokia 3595.....

This phone has been great to me in the last two weeks. The reception is terrific. However the ringtone volume is a little soft.

I have FW18, does anyone know how to upgrade to version 19?

I live in the Bay Area... if anyone know's how to do this, please respond.

Thanks.

I believe you have to sign up at the developer village. My C56 bought in Vancouver is already at v19 so I haven't tried this myself.

the c56 is a great little phone if you live in an area with decent recption. it is true that siemen phones like this one probably have the closest to landline sound quality. however, they do not pick up weak signals well and have trouble holding on to them. this applies to the c56. the 6590 is less feature rich and the sound quality isnt quite as good but will get better reception and have better battery life. it is also louder in conversations and ringtones. its a tough choice but i would go with the nokia

I would have to disagree I found that the C56 held onto a weak signal better than some other mobiles. I was able to carry a conversation still and not have the call drop mid sentence.
