Wondering if there is a way to use the phone as a modem with out having to pay alltel the $10 tethering package. I know some one might know or at least have an idea.

WMWifiRouter if one has a data plan already.

Goodluck.

sorry no help there... if i was in an area with wifi i would not need the phone as a modem.

I think that the idea is to use MWWifiRouter as an IP router, so that it takes the IP from your cellular provider and makes it available via 802.11 (wireless TCP/IP) to any other device (such as a computer with WiFi) that supports 802.11.

Or to make that more understandable, it turns your phone into a Wireless Access Point, and any computer/laptop with wifi can access its internet connection.

well that is a good suggestion, but only if you are going to use it in a certain location. Kinda hard to use this set up while traveling. But that is still a good alternative to keep bills low (save money to spend on black gold).

I use it all the time while traveling. You just need a 802.11b or g interface on your laptop.

I think you're misunderstanding what this software does. It uses your data plan and your cell data service to broadcast Internet Wifi service from your cellphone. You just set it up as an access point and configure your wireless interface for it.

Tethering or using data on the phone all uses the same thing, minutes. Unless you have any type of data feature, then any data used will be covered. But you are officially suppose to pay an extra $10 for smartphone tethering.
