I'll have to see the white to make up my mind but I'm thinking no at this point. That black back is gonna look terrible in a few months though I'm afraid.

I was thinking about getting white myself. Whatever I do get will have an invisible shield to protect it.

It really doesn't matter, I put a protective shield on the entire phone that has a nice photo design, and normally carry it around in a case/glove.

White because the higher model (16 gb) comes in white. I know lame reason. But I'll probably get a case anyway to cover it up.

White, because of scratches and smudges. Unless a low-bulk case comes out (similar to the InCase Slider), in which case I'd go with either (probably black, since it's cheaper and I don't care about media capacity - I just use it as a phone anyway).

The 16GB can be had in both colors. I like the black but I have a feeling the white is gonna smudge and not show scratches as much.

I like the white, but I wish they made the front white as well. For that reason, I'll probably go with a black 16. Not that it really matter because like others above have said, it will go straight into a case.

What I meant is both come in black yet only the 16 gb will come in white. So when people see the white one in your hand they will know you got the better one. Again a very stupid reason to pick a product but that's me

At first I was planning to stay away from white. Reason: over time, skin oils and sweat would discolor the plastic.

Then I realized something: in the year I've had the 2G iPhone, I've RARELY ever used it OUTSIDE of its case.

That said ... I'll probably go with white.

Whats with everyone being so protective of the phone that they have to put it in cases? I work a labour job and don't protect the phone in any way, it looks exactly the same as when I bought it 7 months ago. I've dropped it at least 3-4 times on cement floors and nothing happened. Its a freakin phone people - if you like the black one then buy the black one....if it gets a scratch then, well who the hell cares, its the back case of a phone for christ sakes!

what you have if its the iphone you are talking about is different with 3G since its plastic back and not the metal we have been used to. Yes the 1st Gen Iphone eventhough babied but was tough. The new version has the plastic back which is similar probably to the Treo style since its curved.

If your phone is not the Iphone then you are in the wrong area.

White models will hide scuffing and scratching much better than black models, however black is a much more popular choice. What will you choose on 7/11?

I would like white, but I will be getting the 8GB, so it'll have to be black. Not a big deal, though. As far as scratches, it'll be covered up with a protector, so no big deal.

Why even get a white one. You'll just cover it up with a black cover. I wish they would make the iphone in a slip/scratch resistant material like some of the covers so you wouldn't need a stupid cover. You don't see normal phones needing covers. I don't get it.

I want to do the opposite, get a stock white back for an originally black backed phone.

My reason: it should help keep the phone cool while using it in heated conditions. My car usually gets warm pretty quickly not only on my dash but my phone mount and my phone (my blackjack was worse than my iPhone, but both get really warm). Having a white back will help keep the phone cooler, just in case.

If I don't get a 3G by the end of August, I might as well colorware my 1st gen to a white color in a similar fashion to throw people off.

White, I would pick that because it's better with finger prints and scratches. Also, everyone likes the black iPods and get those because they think everyone gets the white; when in reality everyone is getting black lol.

White will probably be less common than the black, because its only going to be available on the 16gb.

How so? Most iPods aren't all one color. One color in the front and just a metal finish on the back. White and black are both neutral colors. Why would it look weird?

It is peculiar that they wouldn't make the front of the white model white. Like everyone is saying I'll definitely need to see both in person. Do you think they'll have the iPhone 3G on display, both colors?

Well I think it all has to do with the screen looking like a monolithic black space when the screen is off. If the surrounding on the front was white the screen would stand out when off and distract the eye when on.

I have a white d807, thank you, and I am definitely a male. White is not for chicks, it looks cool and it's different than all of the grey, black, and silver phones out there. I'm sure I'm not the only male who voted for white either.

The sides are silver. You can claim they are whatever you want, but your eyes will tell you that they are silver.

Well technically Black is not a colour either. It is the combination of all other colours.

So Apple should say you can choose between All Colours or No Colour.

Well the girlfriend is definitely going with the white one. I'm still debating even though I voted white.

I'm leaning more towards white because I'm thinking it will show scratches and fingerprints less I would assume.

Does anyone believe that the plastic may be stronger than most plastic devices? I mean apple is aware of the disadvantages of using plastic. Do you think this could be some kind of super polymer that resists scratches?

IMO, plastic is more durable than AI that most cell manufactures use. Same goes with cars. Plastic bumpers are far more durable than metal. Metal dents and warps much more easily. For example look at AI trim on BMW's vs "wood grain" trim. I spent a lot of time when I ordered my 335 over this debate. Plastic, i mean wood grain won after looking at loaner cars.

I was wondering the same thing, I mean this is Apple. Also, we do have to remember that 99% of all other phones are made of plastic. So, I think Apple would take good care to use quality plastics.
