IPhone 3G text entry

Hi All,
One of the problems that I remember with the original IPhone was that it had only limited support for its on screen keyboard. I never owned an IPhone, but from what I remember from playing with it, the on screen keyboard didn't necessarily appear for all possible text entry fields. Also, it didn't handle screen rotation to landscape view. I would expect that when rotated to landscape view, the keyboard would change to give wider easier to press keys.
Does anyone know if the IPhone 3G addresses these issues?
