I like the huge number of application available for 240x240 screen, even though are still not as many as for 240x320, but after 320x320 screen comes out for leaked Treo 850, would original apps written for 240x240 screen work with 320x320 right out of the box, or would software designers have to release their applications customized for newer 320x320 screen??? and how about applications/games written for 320x240 resolution?? would they work on treo 850's screen??

If i may also ask, what can i expect to see different on 320x320 screen compared to 240x240 screen?? Sure it will be crisper and clearer, but will I see more information too?? would I still have to scroll left and right as much, or it will reduce the scrolling??

I was reading on the Windows Mobile Developer Team Blog that 320x320 requires icon sizes different to those on 240x320 applications. 240x240 applications can use the same icons as QVGA applications, but 320x320 can't use either QVGA or VGA icons.

This means that icon-intensive applications will not be compatible with 320x320 screens unless the developers have modified their programs. Apparently there are two possible choices that developers can do right now that will get their applications compatible with 320x320 screens. Either add icons for the new resolution or resize the existing QVGA icons to a specific in-between size that will work with both QVGA and traditional square resolution, as well as the newer 320x320 square resolution.

I do not have the specifics but bottom line is that it is in hands of the developers, and they can do modifications to their programs right now without waiting for the Treo 800 and/or Treo 850 to arrive.

BTW: I think it's Spb Phone Suite the only program I've seen so far explicitly announcing their current version is not compatible with 320x320 screens. Hopefully they are working on the necessary modifications for a future version.
