iPhone 1.0 and 3G Users Should Both Be Happy

Ok, now hear me out on this.

In the 1.0 camp, you have myself and millions of others whose value of their phone has not been shot to chit by the new release since as of now, you will have to activate the new iPhone 3G before even leaving the store. This will keep the used market for the original iPhone in the shape it is in today. If we want to upgrade, we can but we don't have to. We've been spoiled by a good data plan that includes 200 texts the 3G users aren't getting for $10 less than they'll have to pay.

In the 3G camp, you can now buy an iPhone for the same or less than current smartphones. The data is the same price as the other smartphones so it would appear as though Apple is going to move a lot of these phones. If you couldn't afford a $400-$500 up front price for a phone (it's a lot easier to pay $10 more per month for some, than a one time purchase of $400+), you can now.

See, both sides win.

my gf does not win , she wants a new iphone , but doesnt want to pay the 80 or more a month for the phone so she wants an older one and they havent had a price drop. Anyone think the old ones will have a price drop ?

old ones are discontinued, and stores are running out of stock on them... So if there will be a price drop, it'll happen on July 11 with the release of the new one, and if you can find one then (which is pretty tough even now) then iPhones gen 1 will be sold with in-store activation.

There is actually a stop sell that was placed on the old iphone (not that there were any in the stores anyway)
