Im wondering how many s60 users went to the iphone and then came back or those that had the iphone and then s60 and returned to iphone, and what do you guys currently use now.
Im asking because we have so much talk about both ide like to see how many actually used both and where are they now.

I had n95 went to iphone then 3days later came back to n95, iphone was nice but missed to much of what i used daily.

I posted in both forums.

i went from a windows device (tilt i think) then to the iphone then to the nokia n95-1 then to windows (htc advantage)again. then back to the n95-4 tried a nokia e90 now im using a blackjack 1 ( family car broke 1000 usd to fix it) but once i get some money im gonna probaly go back to the n95-4 or the e71. the only thing i really liked about the iphone was was the big screen and the web browser at the time. nothing else really stood out. but i love windows because i could stream alot of diffrent windows formats. and the ablity to flash a cooked rom and tweak it to your liking. then when i had the n95-1 i liked it overall with the exception the low memory problem. but once i got the n95-4 it was better the browser was sweet (flash and it rendered pretty fast) using att hsdpa. pictures were pretty good. and it was becoming hackable plus it had a good size memory built in. plus with the new coreplayer i was able to stream alot of windows media formats like mms (xm radio) anyaways thats my thought . but to be truthful ill probably buy the iphone 3g as well as some other windows phones like the sony xp1 htc diamond/pro samsung i907 nokia e71 by the way i mostly use my phone for media player

ya no 3g another nice phone but lack of 3g killed it (i own a small construction bussiness so if i bust my *** i make good cash )

Its a shame Nokia didn't release a 3g version here, this would of been my phone for a LONG time.

I've pretty much been with my iphone since last September. I've owned a bunch of phones in the last year and a half and the iphone works great for me. I use it mostly for music, movies and internet browsing. Been thinking about getting another s60 as a work phone though.

Posted by: davistld01

I had the iPhone...then traded it to a UK member for a new Nokia N95-1 shortly after the release, because it was the only phone more hyped than the iPhone at the time. It didn't take me long to realize that I had made a mistake...but it was more that I disliked the phone itself (crappy build quality was the main issue) rather than the S60 system on it. I ended up selling the N95 on BST and continued on with life...and another iPhone, before I jumped ship to RIM.

I have pretty much become a fan of BlackBerry...because it does all I need it to and more, and does it simply and reliably. I have had several S60 phones (E50, E61i...N95-1) and have always been somewhat intimidated by the system...since I must admit that I am not a full-fledged techie like many are here. But, I have been told my friends that I might like it better than BB if I would be patient and give it a chance.

So...although I am planning to get the BlackBerry Bold when it's released, and am also considering the new 3G iPhone...I am also seriously looking at the new Nokia E71 that was announced yesterday. It has a very BB-esque design and style...but with a hotrodded S60 platform that might be fun to use.

I can't afford all three ...so we'll see how it goes!

Technically, I fall into the S60 to iPhone category, as I had a N95-1 right before I switched. I did port over to a BlackJack first, though, about a week before. It wasn't really a phone I wanted, but I wasn't going to pass up the opportunity to get a free phone and have something on-hand for 3G tethering. But it really was the N95 before the iPhone, by all accounts.

I have used S60 for a long time, since 6600 and its hardly evolved. Untill as recently as the N95 second or third version with increased memory it was as laggy as hell. It really can't compare with iPhone OS for speed, ease of use or sophistication. The competition here will come from Android I hope because I really don't want to support a locked marketing model.

Nokia had it coming, they have sat on their leadership and squandered a 5-7 year window by not doing anything innovative and selling us overpriced bricks with cheap plastic and build quality. All you Nokia owners just think back to the Nokia's you owned and the quality of the keypads in expensive phones. Nokia has taken its customers for granted.

I expect Apple and Google to fight it our for the smartphone market now, I couldn't care less about Symbian and unless Nokia demonstrate real innovation I don't see myself paying $500 plus for their phones ever again. After buying N73 for $550 at launch and later regretting due to the laginess and cheap build quality I promised myself I would never spend this sort of money for a phone, when N95 came out I couldn't see the value in spending $700 for a 5mp camera and .2 inch more screen space and didn't bother.

I was also getting tired of signing freeware applications before install, I have a guide up here at howardforums on installing gnubox on N73 which has to be one of the most complicated processes to install on any platform. Eventually I got a N95 8GB as a passdown from a family member and it is more of the same. I guess because Nokia has not done well in US for users here there is some novelty for symbian and Nokia but trust me it won't last very long when you see a platform stagnate for 5 years.

Only the iPhone compelled me to pony up $399 and compared to the Nokia's I have been spending a lot of money on it wasn't a bad deal. The build quality, intuitive UI, fabulous screen and big display itself makes it worth it let alone the internet and multimedia features and the extra functionality that opens up after you jailbreak it. Nokia has been giving me 3G for ages but what am supposed to do with 3g on a 2.4 or 2.6 inch screen? Apple approach thinks things more from the user perspective and that's why they are successful I feel.

But if given a choice of a less functional Android I will move because the locked model doesn't work for me. I am not in the US or western Europe where you guys are used to combo deals and locked models. I am happier paying for the phone and service separately. Oh and I have a company provided blackberry for 2 years now. Blackberry is good for exchange outlook integration and office mail where it can't be beat for reliability. The OS and interface is behind both symbian and Apple in my opinion. I won't use it for anything else.

My entire OS fonts are nokia series 60 font. I love it

This was kind of my surprise with my N95-1 as well. Coming back to S60 after four years away - I was really expecting something different ... but the N95 ended up feeling just like using my 3650 from soooooo long ago. It was a really, really disappointing outcome for me. I actually didn't want to buy an iPhone. I wanted to keep being the guy who had that phone that no one else seemed to know where you got it from.

But the iPhone has made me realize how pathetically shallow and superficial that tendency is -- and has cured me of it.

Obviously, I know that S60 has improved - technically speaking - since those days of my 3650. But I just couldn't get over the fact that it felt like I was living back in 2003. The browser was great, and a welcome change to finally have something really usable as a mobile web browsing platform. But knowing the S60 browser was based on WebKit, and that Safari was too, it wasn't enough of a selling point.

Posted by: KoukiFC3S

S60 is pretty cool but the 3rd party apps on it are really disappointing.

N95 is the 2nd best phone after the iPhone though.

Posted by: hotr32

i started with iPhone 4GB and then got rid of it for a N95-3, then went back to the iPhone 8GB, then sold that, back to the N95-3,kept this one and recently picked up another iPhone 8GB. i guess it really depends what i want to use, in my opinion they are both great phones with obvious weaknesses/issues.

Raulbe, i think thats just your opinion and definitely entitled to it, I on the other hand felt differently, the iphone was a welcome change when i had it until i realized that the call quality, and speaker quality, and all the glitz and glamour of the screen doesn't mean a thing if it just dont outright perform as a phone first, I loved the ui but after the touch it was like boring what else is there to it.

I missed a good camera, video, full bluetooth and other things the iphone just dont have i truly feel the nokia nseries is a combo of both windows and apple combined.

I really don't think it will between apple and google, i mean what about rim and nokia,They are the leaders thus far and seem to be gaining, so much for being stagnant.

Apple has done an amazing job and i hope they continue 2, I feel they just missed the boat with the lack there of of upgrades on there 2nd generation device, but only time will tell.

If Nokia ever decided to get wise about the U.S. then it will be over for many companies remember they have almost half the market now with the U.S. not even being a factor thats kinda scary, Here check out the latest stats and of course others will lose percentages whenever someone new comes to play, sort of like an independent in our elections they just change the percentages a bit.Whats even scarier the sales are just nokias smart phone sales not total sales to me they seem fine where they are.

HAHA SORRY.

The only thing I care about is technology and innovation and I think Apple have stepped up and delivered here and given others something to think about. Unfortunately there are too many apple lovers, haters, cool guys, anti-cool guys to have a reasonable discussion about these things so now I don't bother because the discussion inevitably boils down to nokia vs apple or something equally ridiculous and I don't want to represent any company because they don't pay me too.

I am only concerned about my and the consumer perspective. And even though I like the iPhone the marketing model doesn't work for me as I have mentioned earlier hence the looking towards Android. There are plenty of things wrong with the iPhone and Apple but since its a new entrant and I have given Nokia 7 years I'm willing see where Apple goes with this. The rest of them have been in the market for ages and I don't expect any great shakes from them. Till now its been Nokia with others following and they had a very typical evolution with very similar devices, nothing game changing, nothing out of the box.

I honestly feel Nokia has been profiteering, look at the cost of the 3g platforms from companies like Qualcomm or TI. There are barely $40-50, the cost of the screen, marketing costs etc. They have been taking us for a ride and offering us more of the same and with atrocious build quality. Even when ram was dirt cheap they didn't bother to add enough negatively affecting the consumer experience but then they had leadership so they got away with it. If Nokia got something like iPhone out before Apple they would charge some crazy premium for it and anybody who's been tracking Nokia over the last 7 years will know that. Now we have a lot of activity in the market and this will ensure consumers get more value and innovation.

Well here we go....

I started my "smartphone" life with a Nokia 3650, from there I was in love with s60 and always have been. Although I have used everything from BBs to Wm phones, and even T-mo Sidekicks, I have always had a soft spot for the S60 OS. I got the iPhone on launch day, gave it up for WM (Touch Cruise) and than eventually made my way back to S60 in the way of the Nokia E90. I love the E90 and S60, but as stated before Nokia has had very little innovation with the OS. I just cheked out the 10th anniversary website for Symbian and remember using my Nokia 6600, and things really have not progressed to far from the OS in that phone. They look better, but overall functionality is pretty close to the same. Not that the iPhone is some HUGE leap, but it is fresh. Now with exchange and real push email, HTML mail, and 3G the iPhone is finally coming around. I hope Nokia can get in gear and push out some new innovations, because S60 Feature Pack 2 is nothing to write home about. For now I will keep my E90 and pick up an iPhone 3G because I am addicted like crack.Only time will tell weather Nokia will be able to hang with Android and the Apple OS. I know world wide they have a dominant presence, but you know what they say "The bigger they are, the harder they fall".

Oh and one more rant.....

WTF is up with the lack of Quadband GSM, Triband 3G phones? Nokia has a stable of some awesome phones that will never see the light of day in the US because of their lack of US 3G. The N95 is a little over a year old and the "new" E71 adds nothing groundbreaking to the world. Let me get a US 3G E90 or something Nokia.......damn!

I will also be trying the iphone 3g, im hoping the call quality, speaker quality and rf have improved. I also wish they add voice dialing and a2dp, but regardless i will still try it once again.

You can use ATT voice dialing service. I was using it for awhile when I had the iPhone, its not as ideal as having it built in, but it works none the less.

Yeah it's $4.99/Month, but it does some other stuff to justify the cost, like voice memos and what not. Here is the website check it out.

I'm not sure I get some people. The new 3g iPhone is basically the same thing with faster radio, gps and some assumed improvements in sound and reception. You stated "...loved the ui but after the touch it was like boring what else is there to it, i missed a good camera, video, full bluetooth and other things the iphone just dont have i truly feel the nokia nseries is a combo of both windows and apple combined." I mean if you want to give yourself cover that you have used both devices so can make an "honest" comparison between the iPhone and s60 you can pretend you bought an iPhone 3g and start writing your posts now What exactly are you expecting to get in the iPhone 3g that will wow you this time around? You like s60, I get it, but obsessing about making the iPhone into what you want it to be instead of what it actually is borderlines on insanity. I can understand someone who likes the iPhone hoping to get more of the same with some added improvements but if it isn't your bag it isn't your bag. I'm not attacking you here, just looking out for your mental health.

BTW, check out the new SE C905, it has over EIGHT megapixels +Xenon flash and it even looks like an N95 with a rounded top and bottom. Nokia is doomed I tell you!v

I agree the only major differences in the 3G iPhone is well.....3G and GPS. What I think will make things interesting is the new software. The 3rd party apps I think is what will really make the iPhone sweet, not to mention the exchange support. Apple is very good at pairing up with other companies so I think in time we will see some really great apps.

Ha Ha you are right but we all like to torture ourselves i guess, the touch did get boring because im not a touch guy really, but i also complained about call quality and rf and speaker quality so if they are addressed i might enjoy it more. There are certain things that are great on it as we all know.

The sony hahahaha its not even a smartphone so thats a no go. I was also looking at the e71 but with now a 2.4 inch screen no tv out and no 3.5mm jack i wont bother.
Im not gonna be waiting on any lines for the iphone 3g ill wait till it comes out and then decide i should say but i do want to try it again.
