Switch iPhone SIM to GoPhone?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hi guys, I'm quite new to AT&T (I'll be switching from Verizon July 11th to get the new iPhone) so I'm not all too familiar with how SIM cards work. What I want to do is occasionally switch my SIM card from my iPhone to another, cheaper phone on some occasions (for example, going out at night) because I don't want to risk damaging something so expensive. Would this work? If so, does AT&T "lock" GoPhones so that I wouldn't be able to just simply switch the SIM into one of those phones?

Thanks a lot for the help! I look forward to hearing your responses.

Should work just fine. Voice & text will work without a problem but MMS & medianet data will not.

Thanks a lot! I was hoping this would work. Does anyone have first-hand experience of getting this to work?

Sure, I switch between different phones all the time.

I got a question, sorry to hijack the thread but i didn't feel like making a new one and your question is already answered. Anyway, I too am switching from vzw to at&t in July, but I already have a gen1 iPhone 8gb that I will probably use over the iphone 3G and sell the iphone 3g once i get it at the subsidized price. Will I be able to simply switch the sim cards from the 3g to the gen1? I'm hoping to get the iphone3g without a data plan.. which is what some people are saying is possible now.

I too have a quick related question not worth a new thread.
Can you do the reverse and say switch a sim from a Blackberry to the iphone to have it work?

My work may be able to give me a blackberry on their bill but it's a curve with Edge and I was thinking if I can get an iphone 3g (somehow and not have to get the plan i guess) then I could just switch sims to use the iphone for me and the blackberry for work.

bump. I am very curious about this as it may warrant a hold in my plans.

If you have an iphone that is jailbroken, then I guess the sim from your blackberry will work in it. If it is not jailbroken & you put your blackberry sim into it, you will have to activate through itunes, which will then remove your blackberry data plan & replace it with the iphone data plan.
as for the iphone 3G, i don't know how you will get one without signing up for a contract. You will have to wait until after it is released to find out if it can be jailbroken or unlocked, or purchased without contract.
