htc kaiser video sucks?

hi:
before i buy one, i see that video playback is awful and htc refuses to acknowledge (let alone provide FW--reminds me of the fruity company apple).
is this entirely true? this would be a deal breaker for me, even tho i think its still waay better than unlocked iphone.
thanx

Define awful? I have TCPMP (the older free version of the commercial CorePlayer) and HTC STreaming Media App. Between those two, I have no complaints for the things I watch (only web based stuff).

Based solely on my experience with my Tilt, I think all this whining about the lack of hardware video drivers is way out of proportion - IMO, the Tilt is not crippled or worthless because of it at all.

That said, if multimedia is really your big thing, then there are likely better devices out there, I suppose (the iPhone comes to mind). If you need a powerful and highly adaptable PDA /phone combo, then the Tilt is unsurpassed - again, IMO.

You can load a cooked rom with D3D drivers if you are that concerned about video performance.

I'm been using the Tilt for a few months. Coreplayer Mobile has been working great for video/music, Encode video at 300 kps or less and the video will be smooth and clear. A 2hr video is approx. 200mb

I would agree the iphone is a great multimedia device with a larger screen. I just cannot get past the touch keyboard.

The tilt/krasier will require you to purchase some software to improve the overall experience.

Coreplayer, Tomtom 6 , Opera browser are a good start.

Good luck with your decision.

i thought opera was free. do you mean a special mobile app?.. its ok either way..
also, is this "cooked rom with D3D drivers" found on http://forum.xda-developers.com or you found somewhere else?
was it att or htc specific?
thanx

Opera is free, Opera is far better than IE.

I have not changed the ROM from the original WM6. Everything is working so well, why mess it up. I need my phone everyday for business and use email all the time. I did add the HTC home software to improve the UI.

I also travel to the US often and the unlocked tilt allows switching the sim and avoiding the high roaming rates.

Every phone is a compromise, and the tilt is a excellent business phone. The BB Bold will probably be better for business use, when released. The Iphone is great for the younger crowd into itunes and teriffic graphics. Buy your phone based on the top three things you preform everyday. If video preformance is a top priority, look at the Iphone.

There are cooked roms based on both ATT and HTC builds. There still isn't a full 3d video driver for the Kaiser(Tilt, TyTnII, etc..) platform but supposedly the d3d pieces help improve performance. I have no complaints about the video. I am able to play all the movies that I have ripped for my iPod with no issues so far.
