What if... (related to upgrade eligibility for iPhone 3G)

Okay, so AT&T says that if you bought the original iPhone, you are immediately eligible for the subsidized price of $199. I need some clarification on this:

1. I bought the original iPhone back in November, but sold it in March so as to get maximum value for it (I got $500). I then bought a Blackjack 2 on eBay and am using that. AT&T is aware that I am using a BJ2, as their website recognizes that when I log into my account on there. So who really gets the upgrade? Is it really for people who bought the original iPhone, regardless of whether or not you currently are using it? Is is based on what phone they have on their records? Do you actually have to show them your iPhone when you go to the store?

If they just require you to have your account say you have an iPhone, all I have to do is pop my SIM into my buddy's iPhone, and then call and tell customer service that I've switched back to my iPhone. Then I could get the $199 price.

I'm not really looking to beat the system or anything, but would really like to know how they plan on determining this. Thanks to anyone who knows for sure.

According to the link that kojack just posted in another thread...

Quote:
The exclusive wireless carrier for the iPhone in the United States said customers using the smartphone today are automatically eligible for an upgrade to the new iPhone at the subsidized price of $199 for the 8-GB model and $299 for 16-GB version

if you bought the blackjack on ebay then ATT didn't subsidize it, so you will most likely be able to get the low price point. Its all about whether or not ATT has already made back subsidies previously given to potential iphone 3g purchasers.
